I would definitely consider giving Schwa a try. One of the more interesting restaurants in Chicago and one of the more difficult reservations to capture. But next week, because of our typical winter weather and holiday hangover, is usually a light week for restaurants, so you just might score. Since the cooks/chefs do the serving you can often talk up the food with them, unless they're unusually harried, in which case, you'll just get a great meal.
