Coffee Beanery - Skokie Location

As I predicted in the Openings and Closings (RIP) thread, the Skokie location has closed.
The desert island known as Skokie/Howard/Lincoln is the Location of the Doomed. The location in Lincolnwood Town Center remains open.

Was it ever opened? Can't recall seeing any activity there when I drove by.

Yep. It opened several months ago. Nothing special. All of the limited choice of baked goods came from an off-site bakery. I think the only thing made on premise was the coffee.

I never saw more than one car in the lot. Although a few weeks ago there were three Skokie cops in there having coffee.

Maybe they were betting on students walking over from Oakton Community College. It kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry decides to befriend Baboo, the new restaurateur across from his apartment.

Drove past there a few days ago and it was dark in the a.m. so i fugured it went out. That spot doesn't seem bad to me with all the traffic that goes by there. Im surprised so many places haven't made it.

I have an unscientific theory. Because the way traffic flows in that area, unless you happen to catch a red light at one of the corners, you're driving by too fast to notice what's there or have time to pull in. It's also impossible to pull in/out from the Howard side of the building.

I think you may be on to something there Dave. The problem with the location is its to small to house a business and parking lot. So what happens the parking space is sparce and hard to get to becuase of the location. The next business there is doomed to fail as well unless they reconfigure the business and layout.

Wow! That's the fastest opening/closing ever. I wondered why it was closed at 7am Monday.

I remember we had one of these "island" locations of the damned near where I grew up: I think they finally paved it over and gave up.

What's surprising is not that this location consistently fails - it's that the similarly-configured Little Island on Crawford and Central in Evanston always seems to be chock-full of customers. I've crossed Evanston to brave the wacky parking lot not once but twice this summer (and was rewarded with a quite good meal,) but never once found the motivation to stop at the Coffee Beanery's location in any of its previous incarnations (I can find no reason to stop at a Coffee Beanery even in an optimal location.) Without a drive-through window and clearly delineated traffic pattern, the coffee idea was doomed to failure.
