I've now seen two local restaurants near me with a big green sign that their license had been revoked. This was not a health violation notice, I think it was from Dept. of Revenue.

What does that mean? When this happens do places open up again, usually? Am I allowed to say the name without a picture? (I can't find an online reference, probably am not searching correctly)

Tax license possibly? Maybe they were cited for irregularity in payments (non-payment) of sales tax.

The IDOR does have the authority to revoke business licenses, so that may be what is was.

IL Dept of Revenue wrote:Revoke your business or professional license

If you owe past-due tax and have a business or professional license, we may notify you and the appropriate licensing authority to stop the issuance or renewal of your business or professional license.

Please, no. And no pictures, either. This is only allowed in our forums if you can also provide a link to a credible, 3rd party source, like the agency itself or a major publication's web site.

how is a photo of the actual sticker not credible evidence ? Every business closing/shutdown doesn't get reported in Crain's or the Tribune.

If I say that Company A had its license revoked and show a photo of the revocation sticker on the door to Company A stating as such, that is irrefutable evidence -- the truth is an absolute defense to libel/slander.

Our policy is that because photos are easily alterable with various software programs, they are not adequate substantiation.

That's why. I hope you can appreciate our desire to protect operators uniformly and limit our exposure.

I've seen at least two restaurants (one a board favorite and one that deserved to remain closed) reopen after having the dreaded green sticker on their door.
