Village Cafe & Pub, Niles?

Hi all!
I've been obsessed about getting a burger from this place. Has anyone been here? They have a website posted on their sign but it's not working.

Is there a reason you think the burger here is something to die for? DId you read something somwhere?

I think that's why I'm obsessed, because I can't find much info on it or a menu on the 'net. I think I'm pleased by the fact that I can get a greasy cheeseburger within walking distance of my house. I'm easily amused.
I'll be stopping by soon to try one and post the results.

They make an awesome club sandwich with RB and turkey and bacon , L & T

I just moved into the neighborhood but have not stopped in to check out the Village Cafe. I actually was going to walk over there or that Kokonuts place just to see the low down.

I'd like to hear your take on Kokonuts. I went to the "original" Kokonuts and was underwhelmed. Then it closed and became Blue Moon, closed again and returned to Kokonuts. I haven't been back since that first time.

We should have a mystery Niles chow day: Alexandria's, Village Pub, and Kokonuts: the Sequel.

I just had a great lunch today at Makisu sushi lounge & grill
a absolutely beautiful (visual) and delicious bento box lunch for $11
with miso soup, a tuna roll, 3 pc california, 3 pc sushi and salad.

I drive past Kokonuts on a semi regular basis, often wonder, never gone in.

Frankly, Kokonut frightens me just a little. I've walked in pretty much anywhere with never a pause, from 4-star restaurants to dives that looked like they were going to tumble down if one did not step lightly, but Kokonut, with it's oh so cutesy name and TGI Friday demeanor, gives me the cold sweats.

Just last weekend we were driving down Milwaukee Ave from a wedding reception in Des Plaines and my bride asks if I had ever been in Kokonut. When I said No she suggested we stop in to for a drink. I hope she did not see the fear in my eyes or tremble in my hands.

Just off the top of my head, The Village Pub used to be a pretty decent Polish restaurant many many (20+) years ago. Was the first place I ever had decent Polish outside of a relatives house. Back in the 20's the bar was a mob hang out and Capone had a rival wacked there. The rumor was he bled so bad that the baords in the floor were permanantly stained. Was never in the place after the Polsih place closed.

Kokonuts is a Polsih place now, at least when I was there a few years ago. Average food. I have had the steak tartare there and would go for that.

Sorry I have nothing to add that is more recent.

That creepy motel scares me the most. My inlaws are Italian and had owned a bar there in the past and had said the same thing about the mobster days. I've also heard people in that area find bones in there yard from past hits. Niles used to be "the country" back in those days and it would take them hours to drive in those cars that only went up to 10 miles an hour.

All and all a drink is a drink to me. As far as food, I highly doubt I will be eating at any of those establishments in the years we plan to stay here.

A surprise to no one, Kokonuts at 6913 N. Milwaukee in Niles appears to be closed. The parking lot is snowed over and there's a giant realty sign in front. I have no details about what's going in next but I'll keep you posted...

It's been brought to my attention by a moderator that I never answered what the place was like. It was attractive with dim mood lighting, empty but for the chef, a waiter, and my date. I had what I can only assume was a Polish dish; I remember meat with gravy and mashed potatoes. Not bad, but not good enough to return for.
