I noticed there isn't a thread for Noble Tree, and only a few brief mentions on the forum.

It is without a doubt my favorite coffee house in Chicago. Despite being located in Lincoln Park, it is devoid of the soulless, substance-less feel of most LP hangouts.

They brew an excellent cup of Metropolis coffee (both medium and dark) along with all the standard coffee beverages, and a very nice selection of tea as well. They also offer Hoosier Mama pie by the slice, with deliveries every couple days...there is generally 3-5 pies from which to choose. The staff are always extremely friendly. And to top it off, they offer 3 stories of comfortable seating, everything from lounge chairs and couches to cafe tables, power strips galore, and free wifi.

I have been working a job where the majority of my time is spent at home. I have officially made Noble Tree my new office.

I'll second that, although my coffee house experience is minimal as I don't drink coffee. I just love the space and the feel of the place. I recently did some tutoring there and came away very impressed at its multi-use capabilities.

It's one of my favorite coffee houses too, and since I've been a grad student for more years than I care to admit, I consider myself an expert on coffee houses with free wifi. It is really warm and cozy, good coffee & tea. I've never tried any of their espresso drinks. The only problem, as with any good coffee shop in this town, is that can get insanely crowded.

My other recommendation would be Ipsento on Western (near Armitage). It's not nearly as big as Noble Tree, but they have the same homey atmosphere and they roast their own beans. I've got a bag sitting in my kitchen right now. The staff seemed really knowledgeable about coffee and they have a nice, creative little sandwich menu. Their signature drink is "The Ipsento" and it's out of this world: espresso, steamed coconut milk, honey & cayenne pepper.

You aren't the only one. I'll take this opportunity to plug "Jelly", a group of telecommuters that meet regularly at Noble Tree.

What a coincidence, Noble is on Groupon today.

I see from the site you had a meeting there yesterday. Were you, by any chance, meeting at a large round table on the 2nd floor, near the bathroom? If so, I was the guy sitting in the single chair just to your left.

It is with a heavy heart that I must make my second post ever: Noble Tree Coffee & Tea has closed, apparently for good. Passed by about an hour ago after trekking from Uptown -- all the furniture has been taken out and there's a big "for lease" sign in the window.

According to this article, it looks like the closure was due to prohibitively expensive work on the building.

Regretfully NF was one of my outlets for Hoosier Mama pies. Anybody know of any other casual spots where I could drop in and pick up a slice or two?

Northdown Cafe on Lincoln just north of Belmont has a few on the menu every day. $6 a slice though.

That is a crazy amount of money to pay for a slice of pie, when you can buy the whole pie for around the price of three slices.

I'd suggest going to Metropolis Coffee on Granville in Edgewater. They have at least 3 pies everyday. I don't remember the price, but I'm damn sure it isn't $6.00.

They also have pretty fine coffee and espresso, not to mention a small amount of free parking and ample seating.

The slices are ginormous, but I agree, it's pricey.

My personal favorite is that other member of the Doejo family, Dollop Coffee & Tea. Very comfortable and welcoming space, excellent coffee, and Hoosier Mama pies to boot. It's also a bit more centrally located than Metropolis too.
