Anyone know where to buy piquillo peppers in the Chicago metro area (preferably city or near north/NW suburbs)?

I bought a jar at Sur La Table about a month ago but they were quite expensive.

I'm virtually certain you can buy them at either Pastoral location.

Spanish pequillo peppers are somewhat harder to find than South American pequillo peppers (the locations upthread probably all have the Spanish variety). The ones from Spain are more expensive and noticeably better tasting. The SA ones are not bad at all, but you will notice a more acidic taste. If you plan to cook the peppers, the differences may not be noticeable.

I've bought pequillo peppers at Fox and Obel

Hey guys, trying to track down some Piment d'Espelette and Piquillo peppers. Anyone seen them anywhere or have any ideas where I could find them? Thanks!

I've seen the Piment d'Espelette at Williams Sonoma.

Another place to buy the same brand of Piquillo I mentioned upthread for a few dollars less than Sur la Table is Marketplace on Oakton in Skokie

AOC Espelette is available at Fox and Obel and The Chopping Block.

The Aleppo peppers at The Spice House also makes a fine and more economical substitute.

And the always-reliable La Tienda has them online

And you can always throw in a few $75 tins of goose barnacles, just to round out your order:

I'll revive this thread and ask if anyone has purchased these in the city recently. I got a copy of Ad Hoc at Home for Christmas and Keller mentions them several times.

I was at the Spice House a couple of months ago and asked them this. They suggested their Hungarian paprika was a better substitute than the Aleppo

I purchased them last week at Trader Joe's. I don't know about their provenance, but when used as an ingredient (vs. stuffed or otherwise showcased) I have found them to be very acceptable and similar to those I've paid much more for at Pastoral.
