I think they close on Sundays too. One of these days I will get by there on a day when it is open.

    Thanks, David

We found it open at 6:30 this evening. One jerk chicken dinner. Smokey and good. One goat curry--excellent as promised--and I think it may have been my first goat. I didn't get the cabbage I ordered as one of my sides, to my regret, and found the corn too spicy in light of everything else that was going on. But the beans and rice were perfect with both dishes and the bread, as Hammond noticed, was surprisingly good as well. Looks at first glance like Wonder Bread, but turns out to be much denser and slightly sweeter. Good for sopping up the rest of that curry.

    Thanks for finding this, Zim.

It wasn't your first goat -- you had some of mine at La Quebrada once...

    LTH:

It's been a while since we've discussed Tropical Time Jerk Chicken in Maywood, an old stalwart, but as today proved, a goodie.

Lunch was simple, a lunch special plate of dark jerk chicken with steamed cabbage and a gaggle of fried maduros (plantains). The chicken was blackened, tender and smoky. The jerk sauce on the side was savory, full of thyme and allspice, and spicy. I love the dense Jamaican white bread slice places like these give out.

We enjoyed a healthy debate between an African American man who was an ardent supporter of Trump, and the rest of the restaurant, who emphatically did not support Trump, and were none too pleased with the man's idiotic politics. But in true West Side fashion, arguments, even heated political ones at top volume, are exchanged with the composure and expectation that it is just a chat (or yell) among friends in a community, and never something to fight over. Sometimes I really love Chicago. Mostly the parts that aren't much of the North Side. Just kidding, I love the North Side, too.

Anyways take a break from the opening of the 39th location of The Budlong (what the F does that name even mean?) and go get some real Chicago hot chicken at Tropical Time.
