Going to LA for four days with my 16 year old daughter. Staying in the west hollywood area, we do have a car and parking. Need recommendations for good, fun, restaurants! Nothing too touristy, but no little out of the way ethnic places. Thanks in advance, everyone!!

i mostly eat ethnic while i'm in LA but Pink's was ok (line too long, food was just ok).

There's In n Out of course, and if your teen is in to yogurt, pinkberry or yogurtland are good.

You know, I really like garlic but my meal at the Stinking Rose in SF several years ago was fairly bad. I wouldn't recommend it.

Asian Fusion restaurant at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport. You can watch planes take-off and land which is neat. They also have four insect dishes on the menu. The crickets are OK, but the rest I would avoid.

"west hollywood area . . . good, fun, restaurants! Nothing too touristy, but no little out of the way ethnic places . . ."

That rules out most of what's interesing in LA. Not all, though. Lucques is good with a low-key glamour.

I second Pinkberry for fro yo. I have yet to meet a single female (why females? I don't know) who doesn't love Pinkberry. I eat it every time I am in SoCal, which means about 2-3 times/month. Check their website, there are tons of locations.

I wish I had some right now.

Los Balcones Del Peru is excellent. Depending on your definition, it might qualify as "ethnic"
but it's not out of the way.

If you're a fan of burgers, there are dozens of excellent burger places in L.A. My experience is limited, but I can recommend The Apple Pan for excellent classic burgers and even better pie. Counter seating only and waits are common, but it turns over pretty quickly.

Also not (too far) out of the way, but probably "ethnic," is Sanamluang Cafe on Hollywood Blvd. Erik M.'s description can be found at

[EDITED to remove reference to West Hollywood -- looking at a map, perhaps that's not really West Hollywood, but rather "Thai Town." Cut me some slack -- been awhile since i've been to that Sanamluang location. (Pomona is my sentimental favorite)]

If the OP is weilling to get out of West Hollywood/Beverly Hills/Santa Monica, there's a wealth of info here about Thai Town, Little Armenia, Valley Chinese, Langer's, etc., etc. I get the impression that's not what's being sought after.

I am so pleased with all these recommendations. I did look on chowhound and got a few more ideas. The only other question I have is where should we go for Sushi?? Her idea of course are rolls........my idea is more sophisticated. I know there are soooooooooooo many places. Something that was so memorable, your mouth is still watering....?

You didn't mention price. You asked for "so memorable, your mouth is still watering...?"
