Krystina's Polish Deli will be opening a new location on the corner Dundee Rd./Wheeling Rd. Sign is up in window, but no clue as to when. Located in a corner of a shopping mall, the space used to be "Grannie's Restaurant". Just around the corner from Pita Inn- sacred foodie ground! :P

with a tip from kevin pang and steve dolinsky's twitters, i drove by yesterday at about 9pm. They were indeed open and fairly busy; i'd say 90% of the drive-in stalls were full and the inside looked packed as well. i'd bet this weekend will be more of the same.

i did not see hot dog statues on the roof... yet.

Re the new guidelines: is there a point at which the Hoagie Hut discussion needs to move to one of the existing Hoagie Hut threads? 'Cuz this place closing and opening and closing and opening and closing again is stressing me out.

No. The brief discussion that took place here is fine and I've updated the main thread, as well.

According to the Tribune the fire also heavily damaged the building to the north which contained Greektown Music, the Pan-Hellenic Pastry Shop, and one of our favorite stores in the city, Athens Grocery.

FYI, Krystina's Polish Deli, in Wheeling has taken over the space that a used furnature store, I think it was called Garden Walk Furnature, had been in for several years. Grannies is still open and packing them in.

No big loss -- their focus on eastern European food had shifted more and more to disco events.

They have been auctioning/selling off fixtures, ice buckets, half-empty bottles of booze, halloween decorations, art on the wall, chairs, etc. since Thursday. If you go today you may still find something, but there was nothing I wanted yesterday (the kitchen equipment was all sold).

The building looks like it was once a windmill: two tall airy spaces with a place for millwheels at the bottom. I doubt anyone else would be able to open a restaurant there as it's about as non ADA compliant as you can get: stairs everywhere. Odds are it'll get torn down and turned into more condos.

According to an article in the local paper yesterday, the current owners are remodeling it and will re-open it as something more restaurant/less nightclub. Apparently, nothing from the Accent Cafe will be used in the new place.

    Hi.

According to Chuck Wenk's column in the Highland Park News, Rosebud is leaving Highland Park for Deerfield. They were unhappy with the lack of customers at lunch.

Deerfield is adjacent to Highland Park to the west. The only difference I can think of is some corporate parks are closer to downtown Deerfield than Highland Park.

In addition there's the higher traffic volume on Waukegan Rd. IMO, locating a high volume restaurant within Renaissance Place was a bad move.
