A better turkey sausage at Treasure Island

First let me confess up front, I can't for the life of me remember the brand name. It just escapes me. I was in the store a second time, looked at it, and forgot again.

However, to help identify it: it seems to me to be a new product for them. It was on special last week at $3.99 for a 1lb package. The label touted "no antibiotics", "humanely raised" (I think all the turkeys are offered a Great Books course.)

These are "Italian" style in seasoning. Basic brat shape and diameter.

I gave it a try and while it will never replace a great real Italian sausage, I found it better than anything like it that I can remember.

The casing offers some snap.
Texture is not too fine, smooth, or rubbery as so many turkey products are. It tasted meaty and was quite toothsome.
The seasoning has a genuine black pepper bite.

I made a very quick sausage and peppers-esque sandwich: just onion, green and red pepper, garlic, splash of white wine, some diced tomato to help a bit of sauce form. And, it was very nice.

For a "healthy" (8 gr. fat per piece) alternative, it was damn tasty, priced right, and virtuous.

This reminds me. Moo & Oink turkey hot links are pretty damn tasty. I'm sure that the turkeys are raised in horrendous conditions and have to pick through their own poopie to get the morsels of "feed" that is thrown at them straight from a burlap sack with big block letters that say "Extra Antibiotics And Growth Hormone Feed" right on the front, but damn if those Moo&Oink turkey hot links don't deserve a spot on my grill right next to the Uncle John's variety at every seebee family bbq.
