Ronnie looked right at home behind the bar and did a splendid job. And my Old Fashioned was perfect. If I wasn't dealing with a head cold and compromised taste buds, I definitely would have had another. Looking forward to going back for food and more drinks soon.

Ronnie's Old Fashioned was what a cocktail should be - subtle, not simply alcohol, but flavor and aroma. It reminds one of the difference between cocktails as alcohol delivery systems and cocktails as culinary creations.

Excellent time and excellent drinks. Prairie Fire is dangerously close to my office...I see many more "Ronnie's Old Fashioned"s in my future.

Thanks, to everyone who made it out last night. A big thanks too, to Adam, Prairie Fire's actual bartender, who not only did his job last night but babysat me, as well.

I had an absolute blast and cannot wait to do it again, assuming they'll let me. It was great seeing so many friendly faces and I appreciated everyone's patience, as I hacked away behind the bar. It was a great call by Dan Sviland (aka Nordic Nectar, PF's GM) to make all those ice balls. They work so well in cocktails because they melt so slowly and keep the drinks cool w/out diluting them. For all those who asked, here is a link to the MoMA's webstore, where the spherical ice molds can be purchased:

I probably shouldn't have spent 3 hours on my feet just days before my hip replacement. I was really sore after my stint and was still feeling it this morning. Cartilage is highly underrated. :D

Btw, I think we raised nearly $200 (via the tip jar) for the Northern IL Food Bank, so thanks to everyone for their generosity in that regard, as well. :)

It was a pleasure to visit with you... and to enjoy the fruits of your labors! Hope your pain subsides quickly and the memories override the owies.

    Ronnie,

It was great finally making it to Prairie Fire last night. The look of concentration on your face as you lovingly constructed those drinks was worth the price of admission. Nice job!

    Ronnie,

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!! Especially since more iceballs depend on it :P

Happy to contribute to the cause as soon as you are next able to mix the drinks!
