I'm curious where the locals like to eat in Madison -- particularly in the Middleton area -- for dinner. Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

They don't go anywhere without consulting LTH. My guess is that they probably use the Search feature and that helps them discover a bunch of threads, like this one, for example, or this one. Take a look; there's a bunch.

    Good luck.

Thank you -- but to clarify, I did see those threads and many of the suggestions seemed to be around State St. and the Capitol (though yes, there is at least one Middleton suggestion in there). I should be more specific: I really am looking around Middleton, in particular -- as that's where I'll be staying and I wanted to get a sense of the eats away from campus. Thanks.

Though they're not in Middleton, they're between Middletown and downtown Madison:

For Belgian beers and Belgian-ish food, try Brasserie V:

    Brasserie V
    1923 Monroe Street
    Madison, WI 53711

For really good Italian, try Lombardino's:

    2500 University Avenue
    Madison, WI 53705

I've been to each a few times and really like them both.

There are a few good places in Downtown Middleton:
Hubbard Street diner - they serve a little of everything, but especially good for breakfast and pie
Roman Candle - good pizza & ice cream
    Barrique's - coffee shop/cafe/wine bar.
Imperial Garden - not sure if this is officially Middleton or Madison, but it's very good Chinese-American food with a huge menu.

Will add more if I think of any...

I like Vin Santo for really nice Italian food (small space with a homemade kind of feel) and Eno Vino for small plates (stylish & crowded, but the food's good). After those recommendations, I would advocate for Mexican at La Mestiza (dismal shopping mall location, but nicely tender braised meats) and, slightly farther to the west, hearty Scottish-influenced breakfasts at the Luckenbooth Cafe in Black Earth. I have yet to try the new Korean place, K Peppers, which is a recent addition, but I'm intrigued.

I've never been, but when Saveur listed Wisconsin in their issue of 100, one of the things shown was Clasen's Bakery in Middleton.

Another vote for Hubbard Street Diner. The place is a 50s diner with really fine pie and blue plate special-type meals. Plus, it's right next to the Mustard Museum.
