Anyone been here yet? I get down that way once in awhile but always after it has closed. It has a website which provides pictures of steak and eggs for a screensaver.

I believe this is a one location brand revival from a bankrupt chain of late 1970's pancake houses.

I just googled the location I recall going to back then, it was approx 7404 S Cicero (Cicero & State Rd) which is now a TCF Bank.

The only reason I recall the place is now that jingle is in my head and won't go away!

    "Golden Bear, Golden Bear.
It's a honey of a place, where food is fun!
    Golden Bear!"

    Argh!!

Golden Bear was a chain owned by Montgomery Ward in the 70s/80s. All properties were sold to Pizza Hut in 1984, and they began to convert the locations to Pizza Huts, thus ending the chain.

I barely remember their Buffalo Grove location, on Dundee. I believe it was in front of the mini-mall that now houses a Heavenly Massage and a Panera Bread, across from BGHS.

It's comforting to know that others share my pain. Why do these jingles torment us so?

There was a Golden Bear on Lake-Cook Road just past Waukegan Road, back in the 70s/80s. It was a big post-Mass treat for our family of 9. What I most remember were all the different kinds of syrup on the table. Okay, I realize it doesn't sound like anything that special, but it is a fond memory.

I've driven by the place hundreds of times on my way to I-294. I thought it was hilarious/amazing that there was an LTH post on it (it shouldn't surprise me, I guess). So, no one has commented on whether the food was/is good. Opinions please...

This place is just ok. The menu is way too big for their own good. Breakfast is average at best. Breakfast sausage tastes like it came out of the microwave.

I wouldn't bother unless you're in the area and other limited breakfast places are crowded.

I remember stopping at a Golden Bear in Kokomo, Indiana, in the early 1970s. Didn't know any were still around.

Did the old one have any connection with Jack Nicklaus? He had a line of clothing known as Golden Bear, IIRC.
