I'm also bringing a sweet pie, but I'm indecisive so I'll wait to see what other people bring. So far the front-runners are chocolate or coconut; I'm on a coconut jones lately. Maybe I'll close my eyes and make up a hybrid of both. I'll keep youse posted.

    Stevez--I promise a sweet empanada--any special requests?
Thinking cherry chocolate and apricot walnut or something like that (since we're getting close to spring!!)

Ok, after giving it some thought, I'm going to do 4 different mini pie/empanadas:
    1) Chimichurri beef
    2) Chorizo shrimp
    3) Apricot walnut
    4) Cherry chocolate

    Now I'm hungry :P

I'm still riding the indecisive horse this week, but since there was talk about the Shaker Lemon Pie not long ago, I might make that. I'm going over my recipes this weekend and I'll have a positive answer by Monday.

I've narrowed it down to some sort of cheese pies or meat pies from Claudia Roden's Middle East cookbook.

Still don't know my pie choice either. Always want to try something new and saw a pear/fig/prune pie on Epicurious that looked good. But I may serve my Chocolate Peanut Butter pie. If Pie Lady doesn't do coconut, I may be forced to do coconut cream. We'll see.

Regardless, I just got a new ice cream maker so I'll definitely be making a few batches...vanilla, caramel pecan?, other?

I think I'm leaning toward chocolate cream pie. There's a ridiculously tasty-sounding recipe on Saveur I may try.

That's not necessary. They sounded delicious and I'm sure most of the people will be very happy with the meat.

I will be bringing a sweet fruit pie, don't want to give away too much, but it will be a composite that will contain either rhubarb or passion fruit and another fruit.

If all goes well, Sparky may be bringing his science fair experiment to experiment on all of you with: it will be savory, hopefully snacky, and will go with the theme - we're going to take a whack at it this weekend and I'll post more then.

Does this work like the dessert exchange where we should bring tupperware?

Hadn't thought that far ahead. I was just planning on eating 12 pieces of pie  , since some of them are savory I figure I can do it. If you can't eat 12 pieces of pie, then you probably should bring tupperware to bring yours home.

I figured that everyone comes with a pie plate of pie, and leaves with a pie plate of leftovers (should there be any).

    Or something like that.

I am thinking of making an additional sweet pie as I remembered I have Cathy2's frozen concord grape filling won from the Christmas party raffle of 08. Assuming it's not freezer-burned, I would think it fitting to return the gift in pie form.

The Moorish chicken pie likely will be the choice, but I will be experimenting with another savory pie this weekend.

Unless you have a problem freezer, it should be fine. I usually make enough filling for 1-2 years at a time.

Tested out the fillings for the empanadas for the food exchange tomorrow and I will be bringing four different kinds next week: Savory: Chorizo shrimp with green olive and green onion; and chimichurri beef (cilantro, onion, jalapeno garlic, cumin and adobo amongst other things!). Sweet: spiced chocolate banana (cinnamon, chili powder, allspice and ginger) and honey apricot almond with a touch of honey grappa.

    See you all next week!

 Kickass. I've been very indecisive so the only solution is to bring two. One will be Coffee Cream with nuts and the other will be either Hawaiian Chocolate or Shaker Lemon.

OK, we're bringing 1) chairs, 2) Sparky's science project 3) Mathmatical mystery pie and I think, to justify the spouse, I want to try a vegan recipe I found for Engadiner Nusstarte that uses coconut milk for the caramel - except I won't be making the vegan piecrust, it looks gross.

Hope you have a sturdy enough table, FIGs! :D

I've got my plan to get there by public transportation but I was thinking it may be a wee bit of a challenge transporting a cream pie on the el and bus. By any chance are any northsiders passing through west Rogers Park in the vicinity of Western Ave. from whom I might bum a ride? If not, I might transport crust and filling separately and fill the pie and whip the cream on site.

I'm afraid I may have to give up my chair. I have to attend a conference and the original plan was to leave Monday morning. The plan is to now leave on Sunday - bummed, bummed, bummed. My roasted pumpkin and parmesan pie was sounding so good as were all the other pies.

Hoping the travel plans change -Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

I'm sure the others would agree that a stomach full of pie is an excellent travel aid--pie first, plane later
