Great to see some modern music being thrown around here. Second the Knife, "Silent Shout" and "We Share Our Mother's Health" are sublime.

A few singles I've been obsessed with recently:

M83 - "Don't Save Us From the Flames"
    Mylo - "In My Arms"
    Santigold - "Lights Out"
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth"

This is a little weekend listening list I put together this weekend. It's a nice little two hour playlist based on the last published play list of the now Denver's defunct Indie 101.5, one of the greatest short lived alternative music stations thatI have ever listened to. Unfortunately, it was replaced by talk radio a few weeks ago. That station's stay in Denver was nearly as short as mine.

    Alcoholics Unanimous - Art Brut
Finding Out True Love Is Blind - Louis XIV
    Panic Switch - Silversun Pickups
I've Got Friends - Manchester Orchestra
Hang You From The Heavens - The Dead Weather
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh - Say Hi
Bounce (feat. N.O.R.E.) [Felix Cartal Remix] - MSTRKRFT
    The Letter - The Veils
I Like You So Much Better When You`Re Naked - Ida Maria
The '59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem
    Zero - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    Concrete Blocks - The Swayback
The Rake's Song - The Decemberists
    Kick The Bass - Julien-K
    Police Truck - Dead Kennedys
    Just Impolite - Plushgun
The Legend of the last of the Outlaw Truckers - The Dandy Warhols
Last One To Die - Rancid
No You Girls - Franz Ferdinand
California Sun - The Broken Bottles
For What It's Worth - Placebo
Old White Lincoln - The Gaslight Anthem
Wishing Well - The Airborne Toxic Event
Guess Things Happen That Way (Bonus Track) - Reno Divorce
21st Century Digital Boy - Bad Religion
    A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
DONT TRUST ME (Explicit Album Version) - 3OH!3
    Whatever - Godsmack
An End Has A Start - Editors
New Perspective (Soundtrack Version) - Panic at the Disco
    Let's Go Crazy - Incubus
Say It (Album Version (Explicit)) - Blue October
    Hate Me - Blue October
    She's A Genius - Jet

Dot Tape Dot - "Tomavistas: Selected Rarities 2002-2007"
A one man crew who plays acoustic guitar to electronic effects. Real peaceful stuff.

    Kammerflimmer Kollektief - "Absencen"
Ambient electronica with some mild avant guard sax.

    Mus - "La Vida"
Imagine what Hope Sandoval would sound like if she sang in a second language and was backed by a band not perpetually stoned on dramamine, like maybe Luna or Flaming Lips. That's this.

Here's some myspace pages if anyone wants to give a free listen. There's a track or two from the above albums on each (their other albums I can't vouch for)...

My current brainworm is Snow Hey Oh, cannot get it OUT! somewhat oldie but I love it. Mr. Crowley! I actually met Ozzie at Flipside, (can you tell how old I am) but really wasted he was, way before MTV got a hold of him. I am really dating myself if anyone remembers Flipside. Feel a little lonely about this, I am not sure who remembers the record store, but all over Chicagoland.

Long-time reader, first time poster here. As with ChicagoExpat, I am now living far from Chicago (in Dublin, GA). Anyway, I am intrigued by music as much as I am food. So I'll jump in here.

I most often listen to what is called "roots" or Americana, and blues. Since there are no stations here that play these styles, I find myself streaming KPFT out of Houston on the weekends. I've recently enjoyed the following.

Life Gave Me a Dirty Deal - Sonny Boy Terry
Half of What Killed Elvis - Chris Wall
I Still Miss Someone - John Doe w/The Sadies
That's How I Got to Memphis - Solomon Burke
I Asked for Water, She Gave Me Gasoline - Howlin' Wolf
Big Boss Man - Mean Gene Kelton & The Die Hards

Idle curiosity... where did you buy the above music? I only ask because the Amie St. site has been blitzing me lately about the above bands. It'd be kinda funny to cross paths with one of my music site neighbors on a local foodie forum.

    Playing today...

    Brad Mehldau - "Largo"
Esbjorn Svensson Trio - "Strange Place for Snow"
Balmorhea - "All is Silent, All is Wild"

I don't know what it's like up there, but in my new hometown, the sun comes out and Spring cuts the air at the start of March. And so the Spring time music starts getting slipped into the stereo.

I'm an expat like you, now living in Dublin, GA. Suffice it to say that I don't have any options other than download or mailorder for the kind of music I listen to.

I see you're in "Bluegrass Country". I live in Louisville years ago and loved the downtown music scene. I think they still put on some good shows in the summer.

really enjoying the 9/1/2009 show from Chicago's Charter One Pavilion. A show co headlined with Allman Bros., so Derek Trucks sits in on a bunch of Panic tunes during their sets. "Ride me High", etc... brilliant. 8)
