J. Wellington's in Wicker Park - Now open

Happened to be driving by a month later and it looks pretty much the same.

I did run across their Facebook Page.

Cathy, I don't know, but one thing I can say is that Wimpy's IP lawyers now know whom to call as a witness. Maybe they'll give you a Wimpy Bender in a Bun during the lunch break at your deposition.

Tried to stop by at 9:45 pm tonight.

Lights on, place about half full, fully staffed behind the counter and in the kitchen.

Stepped up to the counter only to be told "We're closed" before I could say anything.

The hours on the sign in the window... "11:30 'til Close"

I guess they were closed.

I stuck my head in the door. They will open Wednesday @ 4pm.

OK, I picked up a menu and asked questions. Thier patty is 7 oz., and they claim they will cook Med Rare.The basic burger is $6.50, with choice of cheeses, garnish, and "signature sauces". Bacon, egg, and other additions $1.00. Fries $1.50. They also have some specialty burgers, as well as "award winning" chili, mac & cheese, hot dog, and veggie burger. I'll check it out soon, but I'm sure someone will get in there befor me.

OK, since I live practically across the street, I had to give it a shot. It's not bad. It's not Kumas, but I don't think thats what they are trying to be. I had a "build your own", lettuce, tomato, onion, "Wellington" sauce (I couldn't detect it). Patty was beefy and fairly juicy. Ordered med rare, but barely pink, it was more medium. Oh well, I'll give them a break. They have to learn thier grill quirks. Fries were fresh cut as advertised, nice n greasy, but were clearly not straight out of the fryer. If they were, they might have been excellent. Also tried the "award winning" chili. Meh. (More beans than meat. I think you can do better going 1-1/2 block west to Jays Beef and get the pre-made Vienna chili. But thats just me.) But overall, a pretty good burger under $7. I'll be back. Curious what others will think.
