My mother is turning 70. We are going to a members' night at the Field Museum. What would be a good place for a party of 10 people relatively close?

"Close" can mean a lot of things with respect to the Field Museum. There's obviously nothing directly adjacent but there are several options on Wabash and Michigan both North and South. Opera for Asian, The Gage and Park Grill are all good options. Any particular likes/dislikes? Chinatown is also a quick trip.

I checked out those threads. Seems to be a dearth of places close. We might go to Greektown or Chinatown. Any recommendations for a large group? My 4 year old is terrified of flaming cheese!

The problem with the Field/Adler/Shedd is the location. You pay $20 to park there, then you have to drive somewhere to eat and pay another $20. Logistical problem. Cab fare both ways is going to cost $20, so what to do?

What about the Chicago Firehouse? I haven't been, but it's close. I assume they have reasonable valet parking.

We've enjoyed Gioco on S. Wabash, and they do have valet parking.

Also, doesn't Gioco have a back room? Otherwise it might be hard to seat 10, but I think they do and it's a bit of an underrated place in my book.

Mercat a la Planxa is our best tapas restaurant, but it's a few blocks further than Opera and Gioco, both of which are only 3-4 blocks from the museum. Opera has a private room that is perfectly sized for your group (holds up to 14). The private rooms at Gioco are bigger, and even the smaller of the two is a bit too big (they recommend it for groups of 14-36).
