I was sent a link for today's Groupon - $12 for $25 worth of tasty at August Grocery. I haven't shopped here and their website doesn't offer much info. Is it worth the money? What are their prices like?

    Thanks!

I noticed nobody had posted yet so I thought I would take a stab. I've picked some things up here but it's important to note that it is not a "grocery" store in the traditional sense. It's more of a small convenience store for foodies. The owners told me that when they opened, they envisioned their store to be a place where people, who cook, could swing by and pick up some quality ingredients.

It really is a neighborhood place where you can pick up some Amish chicken, Berkshire pork, fresh seafood, small selections of cheese/sausage and Bennison's bread. They also have some produce, dry ingredients, and canned food. The focus is on quality so the prices a little higher but since it's in my neighborhood, I've stopped in for some bread, pork shops, or pasta. They are also very nice and will cut up a chicken for you or slice off as many pork chops from the loin as you want. The selections are limited so for pork, they may only have one pork loin and for chicken, only 2-3 birds but it's enough for their volume.

If you were in the neighborhood, I could see using the coupon but it's probably not worth your drive. It's similar in size to the Green Grocer except they don't have the "local" focus. I hope this helps.

I just wanted to post a note here (not sure if this should go in the general openings, closings thread), but August Grocery has closed. I don't know what Groupon will be doing as a result of this so I am posting moreso as an FYI.

If a business closes and you have an unused Groupon, send a message to Groupon. You'll get your money back.

Does anyone know what happened to August? I was a frequent visitor and I got to know the owner (George) fairly well. It's too bad, great people and lunch/dinner specials.

I also was a frequent visitor, I worked in the area. I really loved getting lunch there.
I believe there was an issue with the building- I heard from someone who used to work for a company that rented one of the upper floors that Hilary from HUE actually bought the building back? I don't know what the circumstances were, but they said she made a tour through the building to check it out. I used to be a regular at HUE as well, but apparently she has no plans to bring it back.
