Under The Bun - Best Burger in Elk Grove Village

Just visited the new Under The Bun Restaurant in Elk Grove and I have to go on and rave about my experience.

I went into the new restaurant and it was very clean and the staff was super freindly. I ordered the California Burger wich consited of American Cheese, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and sun dried tomato mayo.

Along with the burger came an order of fresh cut fries and a drink. (Free of Charge becuase of the grand opening special.

This was the most delicious burger I have had in a long time. It was made right to order and the double patty was so juicy and delicious that it made this burger trully memorable!

After talking with the owner I found out that the patties are made fresh daily from Certified Angus beef which seperates this Burger restaurant from every other restuarant in the area.

Also have to comment on the fries as they were delicious and reminded me of what real fries should taste like.

If you want to be more on the healthy side this restaurant offers Wraps, Focaccia Sandwiches, and a variety of salads.

The owner actually owned the previous incarnation at this location called Hippo's. There's been a constant string of failures at that location. I don't know if it's a cursed location or not, but they have an uphill climb.

I agree though that the burgers are very good. The fries are very good but could use a little more crispness. The onion rings are also good and they have something called Frings, which is a half order of fries and a half order of rings.

I only have 2 complaints about the place. First is the inside seating. They have tables, but not real chairs. They have seats that swivel but are anchored. Not a lot of room for us waistline challenged customers.

My bigger complaint is the 90 cent charge for cheese. Adding bacon only adds 50 cents, but 90 cents for cheese is way over the line in my opinion.

WHERE ARE YOU GONNA FIND A GRILLED SHRIMP WRAP WITH A CHUNKY AVACADO SALSA AND CHIPOTLE CREAM? OR FRESH MUSHROOMS STUFFED WITH BACON, CREAM CHEESE AND SCALLIONS THEN BATTERED, ROLLED IN PANKO BREAD CRUMBS AND DEEP FRIED TO OOZY GOODNESS.

I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE BEST FOOD TO COME OUT OF THIS CORNER IN A LONG, LONG TIME. IT'S JUST WHAT THE AREA NEEDED. MY GOAL IS NOT ONLY TO MAKE UNDER THE BUN A FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD PLACE BUT ALSO A DESTINATION POINT FOR ALL OF THE NORTHWEST SUBURBS.

SO COME ON IN AND CHECK OUT ONE OF OUR OFF THE HOOK BURGERS OR A NICE HEALTHY WRAP OR FOCACCIA SANDWICH IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT. I'D LOVE TO MEET YOU.

Did you have anything to do with the original Hippo's on Higgins Road ? I have many fond memories of that place,hot dogs and beef sandwiches. I remember the line some nights being out the door.

it was excellent buger but a lot larger than I expected..
next time ill stick with the single
the fresh cut fries were good but I have to try the panko crumb onion rings next time

Had a wrap from this place this was delicious as well I have never been to Hippos but this Under The Bun place seems to be a winner. Going to try the Panko onion rings and a pannini next.

I really like how nice the service is....and the fact that people actually come around and ask how my meal was.

Went there Friday night and picked up burgers, fries, and onion rings for the crew.

The burgers were really, really good.

I used to work near Paradise Pup and would wait in their "5 person 1/2 hour wait" lines all the time for a PP burger. I can honestly say these are in the same class as PP. And I don't say that lightly.

I had the "Denver" (swiss, grilled onions, mushrooms, roasted garlic mayo) and it was great. My wife just had a "Juicy Burger" with grilled onions and loved it. The fresh cut fries were also good, though a little over salted. But the killer onion rings were the best. I avoid O-rings in general, because the frozen ones you usually get are greasy. These were light and crispy. There was none of that, "Here you take the last ring.", "No you.." We were fighting over the last one.

This place is a keeper. Long time lurker, I registered just to post this. And no, I'm not a friend or relation, just happy to see a great burger joint move in.

This place is now closed. This is the 3rd or 4th place to fail at that location in the 6 years I've been working in the area.
