right now it's an Old-Fashioned with Pappy Van Winkle 12yr. I was worried about spoiling the bourbon by mixing it, but it totally blew away any old fashioned I've had to date. 2.5 oz Pappy, 1 tsp demerara syrup, 2 dashes of Fee's Whiskey-Barrel Aged Bitters, orange twist.

What did you think about the Purple Haze? I had it for the first time a couple weeks ago and was very happy with my selection. I have always enjoyed their Turbo Dog (first introduced to me at Kuma's years ago), and looking over the liquor store's beer selection, decided what the hell and gave it a chance. It wasn't as tragically sweet as I feared it might be.

I liked it, really "fruity" finish. Even after gumball head that has a citrus taste to it.

Yeah, I saw your post above about the Sobieski and lemonade, which made me miss drinking my Sobieski.

I'm not much of a vodka guy but a friend gave me a bottle of the Sobieski for Christmas and I really liked it. I've bought a few more since then. It's got a very distinctive and pleasant finish, which I'm guessing is imparted by the type of rye from which it's distilled. And at about $10 a bottle, it's a very good buy.

As I was going through my month of not drinking, I started thinking about all the different alcohols I was going to drink when I was done. Since I'd been continually tweaking my Virgin Mary recipe during that time, I thought it might lend itself well to also being a Bloody Mary. Turns out, I was right. If I'd only had a pickle spear to toss in there, it would have been perfect.

"Dang! That's Good" brand Butterscotch Root Beer. Found a bottle of this in the fridge at my parent's house in Wisconsin and thought it was pretty novel. So, they just brought me a case, which will likely last me a few years. The flavor is essentially butterscotch disc candies melted down and added to decent root beer. Really really sweet, but tasty.

Rum is the spirit of the evening. Started out with some Westerhall and moved from there to some Prichard's. Have to say that the butterscotch root beer sounds pretty good, too. :)

    thanks,

I hadnt had any vodka in about 13 years, until I tried the pineapple infused vodka @ Toons a couple Saturdays ago. Really liked it, and knew I had a bottle of Grey Goose laying around unused. Went out and bought an iced tea dispenser and put the pineapple and vodka together. After a few hours it was good, last night it was really good, tonight I bet it will be better. But a real dangerous drink, very easy going down. :D

Pineapple infused vodka is good stuff! It can get dangerous though...they go down very easy. Griffin's Pub (now a condo bldg) always had a selection of infused vodkas. Pineapple was a favorite. Their hot pepper infused vodka was amazing in their bloody marys.

gleam wrote:Hey Jim, what's your approximate recipe? How many pineapples to how much vodka? Any other ingredients?

They make a version of this at Prairie Grass Cafe (referred to as Nordic Nectar). In their verision they use 2 pineapples for every liter of Vodka. It steeps for a minimum of 72 hours and can go up to a week, as long as the fruit is entirely covered. After a week, it begins to oxidize and the quality drops a bit. Once it's finished, it can be strained off and frozen for future use. At that point, the pineapple does add solids to the vodka, which will cause it to expand, so be sure to leave some extra head space.

    Hope that helps,

I'm drinking a version of the Jack and Coke. It's the Bacardi and Pepsi. I typically use half a can of pepsi and a shot or two of Bacardi clear rum (clear rum is the key) with a splash of fresh lime juice. It's very smooth compared to a Jack and Coke. You'll actually enjoy this if a J+C makes you cringe.
