In my newer life I no longer pull over at the sight of neighborhood taverns to find a gem in the rough with a quick shot and beer. Area little markets and grocery stores are my new haunts.

I've been using Bryn Mawr as a thoroughfare alot recently and finallly got into the market/store between Kimball and Kedzie just doors from Midori the Japanese restaurant.

WOW. I'm now stopping there at least twice a week. The area used to be predominantly Korean but it's now like League of Nations up that way. This store has changed with the times too.

On my recent forays I've been using it as a quick replacement for H-Mart runs. There's a little bit of everything H-Mart sells there plus the added benefit of spanish and American products. Also a fine neighborhood butcher and smallish fish monger. The frozen aisle has a nice selection of frozen eel, squid, octopi, and ocean fish too.

One of the little gems of the place is grandma and the owner Ken making fresh cooked food for their catering clients and then putting packaged cooked on a shelf for walk in biz. I believe their fried chicken wings have heroin in them. Unbelieveable and a steal at 5 bucks. The chop chae is perfect as is the futomaki. He also hand makes kimchee every Tuesday and has batches with fruit and without, fermented and non-fermented. Great stuff. Ken the owner also has a thriving produce/fruit biz for area Asian restaurants throughout suburbs and city, and he's down at Damen ave, every AM at 5am he says.

If you are up that way it's definitely worth pulling over to check it out. They have their own parking lot too.

Was there a few years ago, wasn't impressed, sounds like there has been major change for the better. Looking forward to checking out LFM.

    Enjoy,

I live two blocks from The Fruit Market on Cicero near Six Corners. I was shopping there everyday M-F. Lawrence Fruit Market has now replaced 2 days of those five for me, that I think it's that good.

FYI....I've never been there on Saturday or Sunday.
