New location; not a second one, right?

No. It's a second location. The one in Edgebrook is still going strong.

I'm thinking of taking a group of 10 to the Edgebrook location. What's the noise factor like? Is it conversationally friendly?

Today's Groupon is $25 for $55 worth of food at Al Primo Canto. But that is not the reason why I am posting this... In the write up, this is what it looks like:

Had a Groupon to Al Primo Canto and had the opportunity to redeem our deal. For the most part, we enjoyed our meal.

Started off with a Strawberry Caipirinha
    Image
Picture does not do this drink justice - there are whole Strawberries!

Rather than bring all the starters out first, they paced themselves. Before the meat arrived, we were served their Baba Ghanoush
    Image
with pita and Pao De Queijo (cheese bread)
    Image

    Then came our pastas:
MARINARA Home made tomato marinara sauce
    Image
FUNGHI Forest mushroom sauce infused with a demi-glace Madeira wine essence and shallots
    Image
AIOLI Fresh garlic and extra virgin olive oil, Parmegiano Reggiano and parsley
    Image

Once our meat arrived, we enjoyed the usual Brazilian Steakhouse fixings:

Salada Tri-Colore salad mixed greens with arugula and radichiogrape tomatoes, Parmegiano Reggiano cheese tossed and finished with a light lemon vinaigrette
    Image
Batata Crocante crunchy potatoes served with a gorgonzola cheese sauce
    Image
Polenta Frita home made fresh polenta cooked in our home made chicken broth then fried until crispy and topped with freshly grated parmegiano reggiano cheese.
    Image

    Meats:
Cordeiro (Lamb) leg of lamb marinated in fifteen fresh spices, gaucho style rotisserie over natural wood charcoal
    &
Maninha (Beef) charcooal grilled beef tenderloin
    Image
Galeto Al Primo Canto (Chicken) all natural young chicken marinated in white wine, fresh garlic, oregano, sage, extra virgin olive oil, gaucho style rotisserie over natural wood charcoal
    Image

Up to this point, our meal was nearly perfect. Once we ordered desserts, our meal was knocked down a few notches.

    Flan

    Cheesecake

Not sure why they chose to drizzle both in chocolate and strawberry, but they overwhelmed the dish and we were only able to eat half of both. Sure, they looked pretty, but they did not taste very good.

All in all, given the price (a third less than Fogo or Texas De Brazil), we will go again...but I don't think we'll be ordering desserts.

Has anyone else experienced this, or was it just us? The first (and only) time we went here, we ordered the endless feast for two. I recall getting all of the starters as mentioned here, 3 kinds of pasta and ended with lamb and chicken. What we didn't finish of the starters were taken away when the pastas came. When we didn't finish the pasta, the server wrapped it up for us without asking and brought it back to the table. Nice touch, I thought. We sampled the meat and stated that we were full. We barely touched the meat, and this too was taken away. We assumed that it was being wrapped for us (it was only us, the server and 1 other couple when we went). The meat did not return. When we asked if the meat was being wrapped to go, we were told that they were not allowed to do that for the meat.

This is why we haven't returned. I can't shake the idea that the meat is being replated over and over again for later customers. Again, I am not saying that I know that they do this, but I just thought it was strange that they could wrap up the pasta, but not the other items for their customers.

    HI,

I think their policy on the meat parallels policies at buffets: eat it now or never.

I would not have even thought they replated it.

CM2772: i really dont think you have anything at all to complain about. and on behalf of the restaurant, i find it rather insulting that you'd even suspect them of re-serving your meat- that would be an egregious thing to do. frankly, i dont believe the restaurant owed you any leftovers at all. i've eaten at al primo canto; found the food delicious, the portions huge, the staff delightful, and wondered how they could make any profit. how much food do they owe you for a mere $30/person? justjoan

Here's a softer reply, more in line with Cathy2's reasoning:

The reason they won't allow you to take home all-you-can-eat is to discourage over ordering. Otherwise, some patrons might order as much as possible with the hopes of taking much of it home. And obviously, that's not the deal. The deal is, you eat as much as you can in the restaurant.

    Habibi,
Thanks for the softer tone. One of the hardest things to "get" in written communication is tone. Without knowing the people involved, I, for one, appreciate the gentler approach.

My attorney, Hiram Katz, believes that the implied contract under which you operate with the restaurant allows you to take food home.

I doubt it. Even if there is an "implied contract", industry custom, and certainly any previous course of dealing between a particular patron and this particular restaurant, would suggest that this is not the deal. Oh yeah, and then there is common sense. :D

I'd be careful trusting Mr. Katz. I heard he lost a gentleman the Dodgers.

Some restaurants will actually charge you if there's food left on your plate.

    Hi,

I have heard from several different people and checked the phone, this place appears to have gone out of business.
