Rockwell Neighborhood Grill review?

Anyone who recently dined there have a report? Do they still have their Sat Sun morning breakfast brunch? What about the rest of their menu?

Went there for dinner based on the outdoor dining recommendations. Lots of loud kids outside, so we opted for indoors. My burger was very good, made to order, and my friend had the quesadilla special, which was also enjoyed. I'd say good pub fare, good waitress, good prices.

Sign in window says breakfast items are available until 1 PM on Saturday and Sunday while lunch items are available any time. This may or may not be what JACEY was looking for but is consistent with menus on their web site. Note that those menus do not display clearly in Firefox for me (overlapping blocks).

I don't recall seeing a formal brunch menu for a long time. I pass by frequently on foot as they are on my route from home to once and future el stop, HarvesTime, post office and practically anything on Lawrence east of the river.

We just ate here the other day and it was mighty tasty with very reasonable prices and large portions. I had the fish tacos - blackened, not breaded - with housemade tortilla chips (outstanding), refried black beans and tortilla soup. A very satisfying meal. Mr. Pie was over the moon about his smoked turkey club. He's been here 3 times before and reports that the burgers, hummus, and other thing that he tried were also tasty. We'll definitely be back.

I went with my sister, brother-in-law,and 4 year old nephew to Rockwell's last night.

Shocked that this place never came up on the radar.

First, because they are baby, toddler, child friendly.
We arrived @ 5pm..and 6 babies, 3 toddlers, and 2 5-7 year olds arrived when we were there..and besides them walking past us..it was not loud or obvious @ all. Families with children coincided with other table couples or bar patrons eating @ a small bar.

Second, because they have a limited draft selection, so I surmised that they might have a rapid keg turnover. Had a good bottle variety as well on display. Hilarity ensued when my brother in law and I ordered the same tap beer..and the waitress said...the Summit keg was tapped 3 days ago and ran out after 1 beer..do you want to try the new keg: "Raging Bitch". Sorry brother in law...you get Summit..I get Raging Bitch!

Third, because it is right off the Brown Line, and 2 blocks from Lawrence Avenue and Montrose and Western.
I guess it's just far enough off the beaten path that unless you know about it..you don't..?

It was typical bar food with some decent specials.

I went with the French Dip...and was pleasantly surprised.
generous portion of lean roast beef and melted swiss..on a bread that could hold up.
Au Jus was in a plastic dixie container..but it's a bar...it was fresh and it did not diminish the flavor.
Fries were average..would have ordered texas toothpicks or the cheddar fries for the 1.75 upgrade.
Next time definitely.

Sister had the chicken quesadilla special and devoured it.
Brother in law had a burger medium and did not complain..even when asking for all of his condiments on the side..which they delivered to his expectations. He thoroughly enjoyed his texas toothpicks side though.

Nephew demolished his grilled cheese and kids fries.
I did not know he had it in him quite honestly. I've never seen him mow down more than one half of anything.

I will try it for brunch sometime in the early summer with them again as I can get my married friends with kids enticed for brunch. But will definitely attend again with the family.

One of my kids just moved into that area so the family went there for breakfast Sunday morning- the day after her move. We all had eggs and/or omelettes, coffee and toast. While everything was fresh and nicely cooked, we all found the breakfast menu to be quite limited with little variety. Also, being charged extra for toast, while it was good, seemed out of place at breakfast.

My sense is this is more of a lunch/dinner place - they have a more expansive lunch/dinner menu and a very nice beer selection. If I lived in the neighborhood, I could see becoming a regular for weekday dinner or weekend lunch and/or a few beers. It looks to have all the makings of a great neighborhood place where you could really get to know people and have a comfortable place to hang out.

We'll see what our daughter says before we go again.

Had a lovely outdoor dinner at Rockwell's yesterday with the extended family. As usual, extremely kid-friendly (and dog-friendly too; every table on the patio had at least one child or canine companion). This is nothing new -- Rockwell's is always solid and caters to all ages (and breeds). What is new is an expanded/adjusted menu with some more creative burger, sandwich, and entree options. Also a greatly expanded list of beers on tap. Previously they only had a few rotating draft options but there are around 10 now -- and a really nice, varied selection. Looks like they are upping their game a bit to compete with some of the other "high-end, family-friendly bar & grill" options in the general vicinity (and there are quite a few; the market on that dining concept seems to have been cornered in Lincoln Square and environs). I welcome the change, though, especially since my go-to sandwich -- the "Southwest Chicken" with grilled chicken, sauteed onions & jalepenos, guacamole, and pepper jack cheese on ciabatta -- is still a feature item. Last night as the sky turned pink with cicadas trilling in the canopy overhead, being able to pair that deliciousness with a pint of Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Wild Ale was just an added bonus.

Just to clarify, Rockwell's isn't doing anything revolutionary and may not necessarily be a place you need to journey many miles to visit -- especially if the sight of an occupied high chair or booster seat gives you the hives. But for those of us within a 4-block radius this is a true gem.

We've been going to Rockwell's regularly for the last few years, and have always found it to be a comfortable spot. Nothing earth-shattering, but reliable fare for grownups and kids alike. They recently updated the menu and have made it slightly more "upscale", but it remains a warm, welcoming place with a nice selection of taps and bottled beers.

My go-to items have been the fish tacos and burgers, the latter of which have received a make-over with different toppings. The last two times we went, I asked for and received a burger cooked properly to medium rare. Not bad for a "neighborhood" place, and I'd put it up against Jury's burger any day.

My accountant is around the corner. A nice place to calm my nerves after the dreaded experience.
