Thank you ReneG for posting about the
Hyde Park Garden Fair. I went to the sale this morning at about 9:30, lots of folks shopping early. Plenty of pushing, shoving and kicking...I hope I didn't hurt anyone
Lots of interesting things to see...but I saw no curry plants or trees.
I managed to snag a new bay leaf tree, as mine is not coming back real well after being on the porch this winter...although I may now have two.
Of particular interest, I snagged some orange bergamot mint...I have too much mint already, but this smelled just like earl grey tea (made with bergamot). I also bought some cardamom ginger, caraway, lavender and a few other things.
A nice lady with a very British accent said she couldn't smell the chocolate in the chocolate mint. So I reached over and pinched a few leaves. "Oh yes, that's quite lovely" she said, "but what does one do with such a plant." I said I had no clue, I just pinch the leaves and enjoy the smell. I then pinched the Orange Bergamot and let her inhale that. She bought that and three more....I love converting people to my useless hobby of growing more than I will ever use.
After a little bit of internet searching, I found two nice sources. Please let me know if you are aware of any others nearby.
Closer by in Minnesota is
Shady Acres herb Farm.
Well-sweep, a New Jersey herb farm, sells the curry leaf trees (Murraya koenigii).
