Time to start thinking about next month's dessert exchange.

I'll be hosting, and I live on the Northwest side in Logan Square. I will make a light dinner (vegetarian) and drinks for everyone, but I'm not sure yet what I will be making. I do know this is a good excuse to buy some yummy cheese, since everyone seems to really enjoy that part of dinner. We have room for about 8 -10 people, and my SO will also be making a dessert since he's been asking to be a part of the dessert exchange for the last couple of months :)

    Basic exchange rules:
    1) I will provide a light dinner and drinks. (Please let me know if you have any food allergies or other dietary restrictions, although I'm already planning to do a vegetarian dinner)
    2) Bring one dessert, no need to double or triple the recipe, there's always plenty!
    3) Bring containers for taking your portions of each dessert home. You'll probably need at least a few good sized containers.
    4) Come hungry!

    Everyone is welcome!

Count me in! As much as I've enjoyed the company of the fairer sex at the dessert exchanges, I'm happy to see there will finally be another guy there. :)

Hi Cookie Monster - There is definitely room for another! See you in June.

Also, I was thinking about making something for dinner that involves mushrooms. Is anyone mushroom averse?

Do you have room for one more? I've only been a sporadic LTHer (read lapsed and mostly lurking) but if you're open to a newbie, I'd love to join you. I don't know what I'd bake yet but I have reams of recipes that have been niggling at me for a trial run so I'll probably test something new out on you. My coworkers' waistlines deserve a break. :D

    Hi everyone,

I must have missed the most recent postings. Thanks, Joan, for the reminder to close the event :) Lemoneater and alleycat, you are definitely welcome! However, I think due to space issues, we will close the event at 11 people. I will send everyone a message soon with my address and directions. I am planning to make salted butter caramels and chocolate almond toffee from David Lebovitz's website. Anyone else have plans of what they will make? I'm looking forward to it!

sorry laura, no idea what i'm making. i always wait to the last minute. i'm a big fan of david lebovitz's website, and i look forward to trying his caramels. i love homemade caramels.

i'm likely to make something again with rhubarb-if rhubarb is still around. i hear there are some early peaches around-another possibility.
with such a large group- would you like me to contribute a side/salad/appetizer to the meal? i'd be happy to.... justjoan

    Following Joan's lead:

I don't know what I'm making yet. Ditto on the last minute thing.

I looove Lebovitz's blog, very snarky; really enjoyed his "The Sweet Life in Paris" book (if anyone wants to borrow it, let me know and I'll bring it with me); just read his latest recipe book "Ready for Dessert" cover to cover (sorry, not parting with that book for a while but can bring it if someone wants to look it over). I should just make a recipe from that book - duh!

I'd also be happy to bring something besides dessert. I make a pretty good greenbean/cherry tomato/vinaigrette salad - simple, colorful and tasty - but can bring anything you'd like.

Want some dessert wine? I realized I don't dig this stuff and I bought two bottles...d'oh! (I'll bring the unopened one, natch.)

hi kelly, if no one cancels for this exchange, i hope you'll sign up early for the next. this is the biggest group i've seen so far.
as to what i'm bringing...i'm thinking a rhubarb/ginger panna cotta. i can bring some deli containers so people can carry some home with them. it's not quite as firm as jello. jj

Dessert wine sounds great. I was thinking along the same lines. Joan and alleycat, thank you for the offers, but I think we will be okay for dinner. I have a couple of ideas I'm pondering. The panna cotta sounds great!

Kelly, I will add you to the wait list. Sorry if we miss you this time.

I also like Lebovitz's blog. I'm actually taking a solo trip to Paris (first time) at the end of June, so I've been even more interested in his blog lately. I have such a huge list of things I want to eat, there's no way to fit it all in :) I just bought his Sweet Life book but haven't started it yet, so I'm glad to know it's good.

    Laura,
Have you checked out Clotilde Dusoulier's (of the blog Chocolate & Zucchini) book about Paris? I haven't read the book, but I love her blog. Definitely seems worth at least flipping through before your trip.

That's the first Paris book I bought :) It's a really fun book to go through and has listings of food specialty stores and markets, but I'm trying to double check things because it was published a few years ago, and I know of a couple restaurants listed that aren't around anymore.
