NAV MAN is going out on a DOG HUNT the next few weeks. Gonna kick it off at the Sheffield and Webster DOGHOUSE called Devil Dogs.

Any other MUST DAWGS out there that the NAV MAN need know about?

Excellent idea. With so many dog joints serving the same Vienna Beef dogs and standard mustard with traditional toppings, its often hard for a place to distinguish itself. Yet, for some reason the boys at Paradise Pup consistenly put out my favorite dawg. . err pup. . in Chicagoland. Charred to perfection while juicy and scored spirally. I find that splitting a hot dog there with a friend makes a perfect appetizer for their cheddarburger.

Gene n Judes is two blocks from my office and their boiled depression-dog is a minimalist experience on the one hand, that truly lets the natural casing dawg snap and pop without interference. When crammed with their greatest fries on earth the dog here is an outrageously enjoyable experience.

    GNR's:

fRedhots & Fries-- The enthusiastic owner of this Glenview hot dog stand goes beyond the usual red hots for everything from reindeer sausages to homemade aiolis to dip your frites in.
Gene’s & Jude’s-- Ultra-minimalist hot dog stand in River Grove serving classic Chicago dogs and fresh-cut fries.
Hot Doug’s-- Wildly innovative Roscoe Village “encased meats emporium” serving exotic sausages and duck fat fries.
Jimmy's Red Hots-- For many, the classic Chicago Hot Dog is an object of reverence, even worship. On the far west side, Jimmy's is a temple for those faithful. We never argue about where to find the best dot dog, lest blood be spilled, but Jimmy's is a great hot dog and a Chicago classic.
Paradise Pup-- Fans line up at this tiny spot opposite a forest preserve in Des Plaines for fresh-ground burgers full of smoky grilled flavor.
Poochie's-- Come for the hot dogs and hamburgers, but stay for the fried salami sandwich. A Skokie classic still going strong, proving every day that fast food can be great food.
Wiener... and Still Champion-- First-class dogs, grilled burgers and freshcut fries, and hand-dipped corndogs are the highlights of this Evanston stand.

    NAV MAN -

SEEBEE is not a huge fan of the dawg, but he grew up in an area with hallowed dawg grounds. Several spots are pretty close together if you wanna make a dawg run west of the city.

    Gene and Jude's

Parky's on Harlem (oh my, the fries!!)

And, if you can stand the purists calling you a heretic, Tasty Dog in Oak Park serves up a mean salad dog. Lettuce, cucumbers, pickles, relish, onions, tomato, and more. Good luck, NAV MAN!

P.s. if you are in the area, you're a VERY short stone's throw from Johnnie's Beef.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

They also do a good traditional steamed with regular fixin's.

    Since Hot Doug's was mentioned...

i'm a big fan of huey's hot dogs, 1507 w. balmoral (just west of clark st.). everything is done with real care. it's definitely a cut above your average hot dog stand.
