Posted elsewhere, but let me mention it here, too:

    Nella Pizzeria Napoletana
    2423 N. Clark St.
    773-327-3400

    Noble Tree Coffee & Tea
    2444 North Clark Street
(for a Hoosier Mama Pie dolce)

I am actually planning on doing this today. I am at Noble Tree as I type this, and plan to grab lunch at Nella later, then return to Noble Tree.

More of a 1-2-3 punch, with punches 1 and 3 being the same place.....

That is a great one-two as is a few steak tacos from Las Asadas and a dog from Redhot ranch. I'm also very curious about the old school (since 1957) John's Pizzeria right next door. Could go very well paired with a dog even if its just good, not great tavern style.

My new best one-two punch in the city is a Mexican hot dog from Las Delicias paired with anything fried from Troha's (I like the lake perch and shrimp) which is exactly across the street. Hard to beat this pairing.

    Image
Count me in as a big fan of the Mexican hot dogs on 26th

I had my fist of many yesterday and just had to stop in at Troha's across the street for a snack to have after.

We had a one-two lunch today beginning with hot dogs and surprisingly good fried shrimp at red hot ranch followed by soft serve with a blondie brownie from Belly Shack. We could have followed it up with Margies, but that seemed excessive. Both stops were very satisfying.

Actually the avocado shake got a good review here and I just had their 3-oz. serving the other day and loved it, so the Village Creamery is a good bet.

    LTH,

We started the holiday weekenf early Friday afternoon by going to Big and Little Seafood for lunch, where we enjoyed the batter fried shrimp, grilled squid and mahi tacos, and a crab tostada. That evening, we had the pleasure of a wonderful meal with Jazzfod and his lovely girlfriend Teresa at Riccardo Trattoria. Alan did the ordering and put together a wonderful feast that I'll long remember...especially the tripe "Florentine", fried zucchini blossoms, vitello tonnato and grilled baby squid stuffed with lobster and crab.

Lunch was at Tasty City in Chinatown:
    Curry calamari
    Shrimp toast
Ong choy with jalapeno bean curd paste
    T.C. Baby oyster cake

followed by Mario's honeydew and orange ices

Dinner was a wonderful Steak and Shake triple cheeseburger. So good, I enjoyed it's beefy goodness with raw onion and sour pickle only.

Had one last week, with a friend in town..

    1) 7:30pm, Nhu Lan, Lawrence. The Lemongrass Pork and Ginger Tofu Bahn mi's (half each), plus one pate-chaud each.

    2) 8:00pm, Jaffer Sweets, Kedzie. Two katayif (one cheese, one walnut) each, and some to go.

    3) 8:30pm, Khan BBQ, Devon. Very slow service, fair-to-middling tandoori-rotis, a good Chicken Boti, and a mindblowingly awesome Kadai Gosht on the day (so good that we went back the next afternoon.. when it was very good, but no longer spectacular).

    4) 9:30pm, Tahoora Sweets, Devon. 1 fair Malai Kulfi each (the next afternoon we took the slightly longer walk to King's Sweets, which had fallen below Tahoora for my kulfi needs lately.. and the King's kulfi was better than Tahoora's by a bit, so now King's is back at #1 on my Kulfi-on-Devon charts this week).

This one-two punch will only work through February 19, but I highly recommend lunch from Graziano's followed by the Heads on Poles show just around the corner at the art gallery Western Exhibitions. The exhibit is as the title says: the two curators invited over four dozen artists to explore the historically macabre image of a head mounted on a stick. The result is far from grim.

    Image
    John Parot's Winter's Hair (2011)

On display rather is a wild menagerie of, well, heads on poles. And while the theme is not food related, the show includes one pretty rad popcorn maker.

    Image
    Nick Black's Popcorn (2011)

Yes, gallery visitors can actually use this take of a head on a pole to make a snack. Everything needed, including instructions and seasoning, is there.

    Image

    Image

Though the price is steep (listed at $1,000) for a kitchen gadget that would need more than counter space, I love it because it reminds me of Bruce Nauman's carousel sculptures from the late '80s. I wish I would have had the time to shoot video of the machine in action, but, again, I think it's well-worth a visit to get the complete effect.

Not being a sandwich person and as one who generally subsists on cheese, my lunch from Graziano's consisted of a large wedge of the Sardinian Blu Mediterraneo, which I had never had before. This semi-soft sheep's milk cheese starts off delicately but ends with a very memorable, fruity sharpness. I was glad to have left some to enjoy with dinner tonight.

    Image

I think the Graziano's-Western Exhibitions one-two punch would be a fantastic outing with kids (kids OK with heads on poles) or even a date--delicious and entertaining.

On a frigid night in Logan Square: later dinner at BYO Wasabi, with more hits than a menu as far-reaching usually merits (Berkshire pork belly and kimchi fried spring roll; shoyu tonkotsu ramen with extra egg; maybe-out-of-place but delicious duck breast with brussels sprouts and a kind of beurre blanc; fried shiitake and chicken gizzard skewers), followed by drinks and dancing at The Burlington, apparently 60s rock and roll night with hipstery guys and gals getting down on the friendliest dance floor I've encountered in a while. Win-win.
