finally after months of anticipation, & planning, the pig roast is right around the corner.

It appears as if we have all bases covered, thanks to all that are attending. I am looking forward to seeing and hanging out with everyone.

My "to do list" is almost complete: Mojo injection for the pig has been purchased, La Caja is on site, most of the charcoal has been purchased, and the pig will be ordered this Friday @ Sages to be picked up June 4th. I am going to order a 90-100 lb pig(hopefully closer to 100 lbs.) prepped, butterflied, and with the trotters removed.

Party technically starts @ 1:00, but folks can come out pretty much whenver. I will be putting the pig on around 9:00 a.m..

One item I accidentally left off the "need" list is ice, for a party like this you cant have too much. Not sure how well ice travels from Chicago, but there is a gas station, and liquor store downtown Marseilles that sells ice.

Ill pm my address and cell phone # to attendees about a week before the event(cant be too carefull on the net,too many trolls, & jokers out there)

Since you're likely going to need a lot more ice than people will bring, you might want to consider ordering that from someplace nearby (and have it delivered if that's possible--anyone that stocks keg beer can usually do that) and adding that to the cost of what we chip in. You also will probably need extra coolers to store it so let us know if that's the case.

good call, I have a bunch of large coolers & rubbermade bins so we should be ok with that.

I might make an ice run after I get the pig on since no delivery is available.

This thread had fallen off of my radar but cleaning up my inbox I was able to reconnect.

    Whew!

My Bride and I will be able to bring...

We have a Good Humor distributor nearby so put us down for some Ice Cream Sandwiches and some of those red, white and blue Popsicles.
We also have a Jefferson Ice/Home Ice distributor in the area so we will also be bringing 5 - 22 lbs bags of ice. 100+ lbs should be enough to get us started. :)

    Hi,

He responded earlier it was going to be in the $3-$4 PP range via the honor system of stuffing it into a box or fishbowl. I am sure in the final post leading up to this event, he will reiterate what is expected.

fixin' to put the deposit down and order the pig today @ Sage's.

$1.59/lb. for the pig, prepped, butterflied, and the trotters removed, not bad at all, I think it went up only a few cents per lb. since I last checked.

    a couple updates:

    - weather forecast is bouncing around a bit, rain is supposed to clear out by Friday, Saturday's forecast is: "times of clouds and sun" - 81 degrees.

    - With the rain we have had, and a little more on the way, the mosquitos are starting to appear especailly since 1/3 of my property is wooded. When I was out on the John Deere last night mowing there were some to be found. I have some bug spray to share, but that might be an item folks might want to think about bringing.

    - I have had a few folks volunteer to help set up tables, etc. a little before the roast, but can always use more.

    - Also anyone who wants to come hang out while the pig is cooking is more than welcome.

    - Plan is to have the La Caja and any other grills/smokers on the back portion of the property(close to my buddies fire pit for easy ash disposal), and the food tables near last years location to try to catch some shade.

    More tidbits:

    - rain or shine this event is happening. Accuweather says partly sunny, wather underground says 30% chance of showers, and The Weather Channel says there is a slight chance of showers in the a.m. hours. All seem to say it will be 80 or so degrees. There will be a few canopies on sight to dodge a passing shower so its all good.

    - Gas out here is alot cheaper than east of me. I filled up today for $2.49/gallon. Keep that in mind if you need fuel for the trip back.

    - besides the pig I am smoking 5#'s of Peoria Hot links, about 50 ABT's, and I might toss some hotdogs on the Weber for the kids attending.

From the looks of the dishes/items folks are bringing it looks like the appetzier, dessert, and beverage area's are the most underrepresented(dont let this discourage anyone from bringing a favorite side, etc. to share). Once again thanks for the interest in coming out.

Like I mentioned upthread I am ordereing the pig 5/21, and getting a pig somewhere between 90-100 lbs, with the other dishes being served/brought this should be plenty of roasted pig for everyone. I am still thinkg it will be a bout $3 per person for the cost of the pig and charcoal for folks that want to chip in on the pig.

    Good morning Jim,

I picked up a bag of 125 "Chinet-like" plates at GFS. I notice that gypsyboy is also bringing plates, but the one thing I don't see is cups. I think I'll PM gypsyboy to see if he got the plates and how many. If he puchased a significant quantity, I'll return the plates and bring a large amount of plastic cups (and a sharpie to write names on them.) I'm also bringing five gallons of lemonade/limeade mixture. That's 80 servings which will help greatly in the beverage department. Do you think you're still shy on desserts? If so, I can whip up a batch of oatmeal cookies or something.

I pm'd Gypsy Boy; he'll bring the cups. He questioned whether 125 plates is enough. That's about two per person. I'll also bring a package of small 6" dessert size plates. I think that'll be enough. What do you think?
