I searched around the archives, but could not find a collated list of best value dishes in Chicago. While there are many good deals around, less often is the combo of best-in-class for a price that makes people simply shake their heads in amazement. The list is not necessarily about lowest cost, but rather amount of quality, combined with quantity, for a more-than-reasonable amount. After thinking about this for a few months, there are currently only three dishes that I have had that fall in this list (in order):

    1. Apple Fritter at Old Fashioned Donuts - $2.25 apiece (can't imagine this ever leaving my top spot)
    2. Burger and fries at Rosebud Trattoria during lunch - $5 (the burger is almost the same as the Rosebud Steakhouse burger, but this deal may end up being only for a limited time)
    3. Peking Duck three course meal for four at Sun Wah - ~$32, not including tax/tip (around $10 per person with tax/tip and nothing else)

Anyone have other items that could go on this list. Once again, there are many other good value options that I partake in frequently, but I'm looking more for the head-shaker ones. For example, I would put the banh mi from Nhu Lan Bakery at the top of the good value list, but falls just short of the best value list.

Good time to bump the Under $5 thread.

For the loop at lunchtime, I often go to Oasis on wabash and get the falafel sandwich with a soup. The sandwich is cheap and the soup is just $1 extra.

    Along the same lines:

Is there anywhere on here that lists the best deals by night of the week/cuisine/neighborhood?

Obviously there are plenty of deals to be had around the city. One could go to numerous establishments any weeknight and get a $4 burger/fries, but I'm talking about deals that are 'LTH approved.'

For instance, 1/2 priced wings at Toon's on Thursdays.

If I don't want to cook on a Tuesday night, it would be nice to have a resource that I could pull up to see where I could get the best bang for my buck, or value, that given night.

I think Metromix has some sort of weekly specials listing. Given the setup of LTHForum and how often these things tend to change, I'm not sure it would make much sense to maintain a weekly specials list here.

Also, if you see a deal, go out and try it, and then post about it...well, you've contributed your own "LTH approved" deal.

The Daily Deals section on Centerstage would seem to fit that need pretty well, though I will admit that you'll likely want to call/check the website to verify that the deal is still being offered. These things tend to change regularly and it's difficult to keep up on all of them.
