Hi - I'd like some recommendations for a restaurant in the western suburbs for my husband's birthday next Saturday evening. We have a group of 8, with folks coming from Oak Park and Elmhurst. I'm looking for a place that has solid food, nothing too oddball since there will be some finicky eaters, and it needs to be kid-friendly. If there's a great pizza place, that could be the ticket.... but I'd like something with a little more atmosphere than, say, Qs -- even though I love their pizza. White Fence Farm was another thought, but I think Romeoville (?) is a bit too far for us. Mon Ami Gabi in Oak Brook is currently at the top of my list, as I think the food is good and kids are welcome. But -- I don't know the suburbs beyond Oak Park very well, so I could use some help! Thanks!!

If Spanish isn't too "oddball" -- Emilio's. Right off the Ike between Elmhurst and Oak Park.

Reza's in Oak Brook. Don't let the Persian or Middle Eastern tag fool you. Aside from the falafel, and hummos, and baba ghannouj, their shish ka bob entrees are about as meat and potatoes (well, rice) as can be. If you want something a lil different, yet plenty for the non adventurous set, I'd give it a look if you've never been to their other locations.

If that interests you at all, I'd recommend dark meat chicken kababs, and their grilled mushrooms. Most of their grilled meat items are simply flavored with lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. I've never had much luck with their vegetarian saucy type dishes, but the kababs, and most of the appetizers are solid.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

    Jimmy's Place in Forest Park.

Good pizza for the kids and great Italian for the adults.

Good for the guests from Oak Park but the Oakbrookers will have to drive.

We just ate at Reza's in Oak Brook a few weeks ago. My two dining partners were vegetarians and each ordered a different vegetarian sampler plate while I had some really huge and awesome lamb chops. They serve huge amounts of food and the place is very kid friendly. There is plenty on the menu to satisfy a meat eater.

We've had very nice times at the Chew-Chew in Riverside. It's very kid-friendly and the menu has some fun choices for the adults, adventurous - "Kobe" sliders, oysters and mussels - or not...

We just checked out Chew Chew for the first time in a few years, and it was pretty good! I also second Reza's, and then, of course, there are all the LUEU restaurants in Oak Brook mall, proper, most of which are pretty good, too. Of course, I feel for you guys coordinating around construction, but what can you do? It's hard to avoid 290 and come out much ahead.
