Jim - wanted you to know after reading in your posts how much you enjoy "The Champagne of Beers" I bought some this past week to try. I hadn't tried High Life before and now I wish I had done so long ago. It's flavorful, creamy, light in body and I dig the acidic aftertaste that goes well with grilled foods. I've declared High Life my new summer boating/BBQ-ing/lawnmowing/suntanning brew.

    Thanks,

    thanks, glad you enjoy it,

for the price I think it is a really good beer for the things you mentioned.

Sure I like to have some Abita, or Three Floyds, etc. but can only drink one or two at a sitting of those brands. Plus the points promotion High Life is running has gotten me a whole wardrobe. :D

I know .... I've never really had that problem with the majority of beers, the one possible exception being Bourbon County Stout in it's various forms, now that is a heavy beer.

It definitely took a while, but I actually think it is worse when pouring from a bottle into a small glass .... it just seems like the bottle has no bottom! At least at rare beer night we could see how much was left.

Tracked down some Ramazzotti amaro at the Binny's Express and have taken to recreating Mike Ryan's Speaking in Tongues -- 1 oz mezcal, 1 oz amaro, 1 muddled-to-extinction strawberry, 3/4 oz lemon, 3/4 oz simple, 2 dashes each Ango and Peychaud's. Fruity strawberry + smoky mezcal = awesomeness in a glass.

The juice leftover from the fruit salad I brought to the Pig Roast (blueberries, strawberries, nectarines, grapes and raspberries with a sauce of rum (alcohol cooked off), mint, simple syrup and lemon) mixed with half of a ginger Izze soda...very refreshing. If it wasn't still work time (and a bit nicer day), this would be great with a shot or two of good rum!

Last night's lineup was almost as crazy as the goal scored by Patrick Kane that no one saw...

A ton of Schlitz, Landshark Lager and Goose Island IPA...

When the winning goal was scored, a bottle of (rī)1 was passed around (can't say I care for it...Rittenhouse or even Overholt has more character, but it was the best thing in the world at that moment).

Finally, our host tracked down a bottle of 'champagne' to toast with and start a shower...only afterward did we look at the label to find it was 'non-alcoholic sparkling wine'.

I'm glad I finally tried it after hearing so much about it, but I think I might take the remaining three bottles over to a BBQ at a friend's place on Sunday and see if someone else there might appreciate it more than me.

Well, I'm eating my words. I ended up not going to that BBQ, so I still had three Dogfish Head 90 minute IPAs in the fridge...and I just enjoyed the hell outta one of them.

Today was hot, sticky, unpleasant in Chicago.
That was the perfect atmospheric environment for a good rosé wine with my simple summer night dinner of French Ham, dry sausage, cheese, Boston lettuce in a tangy vinaigrette dressing, and Camembert cheese with a good baguette.
My choice of the day: Chateau Guyot 2009 rosé, a dry, but very fragrant and refreshing Costières de Nimes , selling today on sale at a very modest $7.99 at Binny's (normally $8.99).

    Sounds like a nice, diverse line-up. :)

I'm having some Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, 2007 release (13-year). I initially tried the 2009 edition at WhiskeyFest back in April and really enjoyed it. I saw the 2007 in a liquor store today and decided to give it a whirl. Very nice, with a strong vanilla note but a not-overly-sweet finish. Not quite rye-like but definitely more spice than I'm used to with bourbon. A good sipper, especially at around $35.

and what exactly are you toasting? being 8.5 games out of 1st to a team that wins the division every year? or to ozzie or kenny beating the others ____ out of each other? c'mon maan theres nothing to toast the north or southside about. Except they'll both have new managers next year...meanwhile the Blackhawks get 2 million+ for their rally (maybe 300,000 in '05?!?!)

Ricketts and Rocky have alot in common...

Been drinking patron all night, Jameson season is over...

    It's totally amazing...
I was curious to find out how many contributors to this specific thread since it started on May 10 2007 drank wine. So i read every contribution since that initial date.
Believe it or not only 14, including me, drank wine or, in one single case, Champagne.
Does that imply that a very large majority of LTH forum readers or contributors are beer, hard liquor, or cocktails drinkers?
I would be interested to find out if some kind of statistics (unofficial of course) have been compiled about wine drinking among the LTH brother and sisterhood...

I rarely drink beer. One or two a month unless I go to a Cubs game.

Wine, cocktails (mostly martini or Manhattan) and straight bourbon or scotch.
