Botanic Garden for Mother's Day [Pictures]

My bride, MsWiv, has suggested a visit to the Botanic Garden as the perfect Mother's Day outing. In addition, of course, to flowers, jewelry and candy.

Ms. Wiv, thank you for the fantastic pictures!! While I got some lovely earrings, a large, stuffed neon green and black spider (don't ask) and the kids made me breakfast for Mother's Day, I didn't receive any flowers. Your photos made my day.

Inspired by your post, we (unbeknowneth, baby, and I) also had a Mother's Day celebration at the gardens (however, we were dumb enough to go on the actual day, when it was utter chaos). We had a wonderful time, and, as you can see below, our son learned a few new things.



Any tulip fans should make the effort to go up there - it's well worth it.





We stopped for dinner at Larsa on the way home (we had originally planned for Pita Inn, but it was just too busy, and we'd been fighting crowds all day), and ended the day stuffed, and mostly asleep.

I have the distinct advantage of living less than 10 minutes drive from the Botanic Gardens. Unless there is a must-do event on weekends, I keep my visits to weeknights. The Botanic Gardens closes at sunset, which allows one a fair amount of the evening to stroll.

Soon will be the summer carillon season with a guest artist every Monday evening at 7 PM. It is the only time you can bring a picnic to the gardens. You can park yourself anywhere you want, enjoy your meal, the music and the garden. I am especially partial to the English wall garden. Every summer they usually have a patriotic program as well as a Christmas in July with a Santa running around.

The only caveat I offer is the serious music crowd also attends. You know, the shushers and looks-can-kill types will be there. So just try to get beyond them. I still brought my toddler nieces and let them run around the sensory garden, which seemed less attractive to THOSE people.

As my bride, who types, spells and writes worlds better than me, seems to have a bit of a mental block about posting to LTH, I thought I thank you for posting the wonderful pictures and that your trip to the Botanic Garden was inspired by Ellen's pictures.
