Looking for any of the chili recipes from the Bar Double R, later known as the Double R Ranch. Other than their wonderful chili, they were known for their old western gun collection stolen, and for the Sundowners that played there almost every night. The original location was torn down, and they went on for many years underneath the downtown Greyhound station.

Got a hankerin' for a chili cheese perch bowl? Sorry, I can't help with any recipes. The Ranch's last loop location was in the basement of the Woods Theater Building, a few doors from the Greyhound station (which had its own bar). From 1959-77 it was on Madison near Dearborn. It opened on Clark just north of Madison in 1948.

    Rene G,

    Did you eat there?

A long time ago, during the Pleistocene epoch if memory serves, I stopped at the Madison Street location for a beer. Let's just say this longhair didn't exactly fit in. I'm pretty sure I never ate anything at RR.

I drank there a bunch of times and enjoyed listening to the Sundowners. BUT I only ate the chili once. That was enough. ugh. Horrible. Why are you interested in their recipe?

mrkrogers has a website called LostRecipesFound.com, which seeks out reader requested recipes. She has unearthed quite a bit of information, though some like this chili may need some extra effort.

Off her website tonight, I am making Frank Sinatra's Italian sausage and peppers along with his Mother's fresh tomato sauce and spaghetti.
