Post #6 - June 10th, 2010, 12:01 pmWhile not a sports bar (and with not-so-great TVs), I had a quite enjoyable experience watching US-Italy in WC06 at the Map Room. Very fun and lively crowd, almost all of whom were there to watch the game. A couple of jokers wearing Italian club shirts were roundly booed upon their appearance and gently ribbed throughout the game (a 1-1 tie which ended up being Italy's only blemish on the way to the title).

Also, I read that they have installed a massive flatscreen that overlooks the front patio. So, for those who plan to sit outside, there's something to look forward to (or avoid, depending on your feelings towards the World Cup). Don't plan on drinking anything from England this weekend, though - no English beer on draft in honor of USA v. England (no great loss there, but, I don't know, cider fans might be curious?

That leaves Meantime out too, though I don't think SmallBar actually carries it anyway.
SSDDHe was constantly reminded of how startlingly different a place the world was when viewed from a point only three feet to the left.

Post #9 - June 10th, 2010, 1:56 pmI've certainly never seen it there, in bottles or on draft (and actually, I've never seen Meantime on draft anywhere in Chicago). Thinking about it more, I don't even know if I have ever seen an English beer on draft at Smallbar... maybe something from Samuel Smith? Or the Charles Wells Bombardier? So, kudo's to them for not changing what they do while still suggesting a slightly nationalistic way to support the US team!best,

Post #12 - June 14th, 2010, 3:05 pmI met some friends at Boundary on Division for the US v. England game. It was my first time there I and found it to be a good place - good beer selection and LOADS of TVs. Not sure I would ever go there unless it is to watch a sporting event, but it definitely worked for me on Saturday. I like Map Room and Small Bar for non-US matches, but I find a lot of the regular soccer places get overwhelmed by the large crowds for the more popular games.
On Friday morning I walked by V Live on Milwaukee and they had a line a few blocks long at 8AM.
