One of my favourite "regular" spots in Los Angeles is
Ita-Cho, on Beverly Blvd.
Ita-Cho is a Japanese dinner bar of sorts, where the emphasis is on small plates of mostly cooked, fried, and broiled items that are intended to accompany alcohol and relaxed conversation.
Here are some photos from my meal there, last week:
signage
unfiltered, "milky" sake
ankimo - monkfish liver
broiled shishito
miso soup with clams
fried wakasagi
steamed satoimo with dipping salt
The
ankimo,
wakasagi, and
satoimo were selected from the list of daily specials.
In addition to the broiled
shishito, items from the regular menu that I enjoy include:
sashimi selection
sauteed spicy lotus root
broiled
enoki
nasu miso itame - sauteed eggplant with miso
asari butter - steamed clams in butter broth
tofu tuna
soboro - simmered tofu with tuna sauce
NB Ita-Cho does not serve
sushi.
