OK I'll bite... why do you suspect this?

Because the Copper River Salmon Run is very short, lasting only a few weeks between late May and early June. The term Copper River Salmon has become a marketing buzzword (buzzphrase) and I suspect that the equally excellent salmon being caught in lesser known rivers (located increasingly further north as the season progresses) is being sold as Copper River because of the caché of the name and the price tag it brings.

I think you're talkin about King salmon from the Copper River, which is definitely not what I bought nor what was advertised. Sockeye salmon from the Copper River, which is far more abundant and is what I got at Isaacson's, is in season pretty much all summer long.

That's my understanding as well: the king salmon season is over, but other varieties of copper river salmon are available through most of the summer.

Any CRS spotting this year at the start of the season? So far I've heard of Dirks and Shaw's. Where else have you spotted it?

I had some CRS from Dirk's tonight. Grilled simply on the Weber Kettle with lump and alder. Man, that's some good stuff.

I saw it for $29.99/lb at the Lincoln Park WF. $5/lb more; location, location, location!

I didn't see any seafood at Costco the other day. My wife said they bring out the seafood on the weekends.

The last time I was in Dirk's, he told me that the Copper River run was much better this year than last, which was a very low catch (maybe even a record low catch). He said to expect much lower prices this year, and I guess we're finally starting to see them. Hooray!

Wanted to add that this was for Sockeye, not King. Still, it was very tasty cooked indirectly over lump charcoal on the Weber kettle.
