I guess I am meant to eat pork daily!! I thought that some may enjoy this story:

I work with a farmer to prepare pork for the markets and eat a ton of it from tail to snout and just bought a Spanish ham for my family at christmas.

So I called my family in Lasarte, Spain this morning and it is now the Festival of San Pedro with all the festivities that go along with it. So at the carnival they have a big charcuterie truck with sausages, ham, lomo, and all there to raffle for the local youth dance group. My daughter went up and bought two "envelope" tickets to this raffle. My wife said that she went with her cousin and bought two tickets. She opened up the first one and won a 200 gram package of sliced chorizo and then went to the second and won the grand prize a Jamon de Bellota from Jubugo (the BEST area for ham)!!!!! She went back to the plaza where my wife was sitting having a coffee and this whole crowd was following her as here is an 11 year old girl from the United States walking around with a 12 kilo ham worth about 875 Euros!
When I get photos I will definately have to post them up as they will have to eat it there because she cannot bring it through customs to come home (bad for dad) .

Just thought that some may find that funny and maybe a good funraiser in Chicago for youth groups!

    That's awesome!
There has got to be some way
to smuggle some of that home.
Has your wife considered a variation
    on the Bacon Bikini™?

Thats too funny! Actually about 5 years ago I was stopped with the family coming home from Spain and learned a real valuable lesson....don't bring meat into the USA! I lost 6 kilos of ham, lomo, chorizos about 25 pounds of dried meats (which I am sure to this day they ate it!). They let me through with my manchego, idiazabel cheeses, canned pepper, canned foie, canned asparagus and gulas!
The only reason I did not get a REAL big fine is that he did not have time to process all the product. At one point he asked me if I was opening a deli! For jabugo ham....I would wear it home just like Midnight Run!

You will be excited to know Jabugo bellota hams will be coming to the U.S. very soon. The first lot is almost finished curing and import papers are approved.

We are also working on Iberico chorizos by November. These will be by Fermin, the only current company approved for US import which is in La Alberica, near Salimanca.

Any questions you can email me DavidYourd@jdymeat.com or PM me.

Awesome news! I will start my "piggy bank" for christmas again and the last ham was fantastic! Have the salchichons (stick with the white mold bloom) or lomos been approved yet as those are very tasty also. Great products you have there at JDY!!!
