Any good places around the Belmont eL???

Seeing a dear friend Friday night who will come into the Belmont eL. We've been to Cooper's (love it) & Joey's Brickhouse (so-so) but looking for something different around that area. Any advice???

It's getting far from the el, but about 4 blocks west of Joey's Brickhouse is some good, basic Turkish food at Nazarlik, and then you're really close to Scooter's for dessert.

Unfortunately, it appears that Nazarlik is closed. The windows are all papered over the last couple of days. At School and Clark, I really like Socca's Mediterranean style cuisine and comfortable dining room.

What about Yoshi's? - a block north of Belmont on Halsted St.

That's really sad to hear about Nazarlik. They couldn't have asked for a better general reception, both here and in other outlets.

Depending on how you define "near" the L, decent options are fairly thick on the ground. Need to get a bit specific about ethnicity, price etc. in order to narrow the field.

right around there there's a few other good places... francesca's ... Andalous (Moroccan place)... HB is close

(i'd be hard press to rate joey's brickhouse "so so" even based off of my trip there)...

Ate at a really good BYOB Moroccan restaurant on Clark, north of Belmont, a few months ago called Andalous. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed my only visit to Shochu. Good drinks, some tasty small plates, lots of dipping sauces, and friendly service.

Socca is at Clark & School.
Mia Francesca, which is also italian and better than Socca IMO, is just north of that.
Penny's has fair and basic thai food. Sheffield and Roscoe.
Harmony Grill at Southport and Belmont has good bar food and a cool atmosphere.
Yoshi's is at Broadway and School/Aldine. Good pan-asian.
Johnny O'Hagan's is at Clark and Roscoe. I like the burger there, but others I've dined there with don't care for the place.

Rather than subject yourself to Penny's. of which I'm admittedly not even a remote fan, I might suggest staying on the train for a couple of stops and taking in the well reviewed and always excellent TAC for Thai at the Sheridan Station just north of Wrigley.

I love P.S. Bangkok on Clark--it's an easy walk from the train. They have great Thai standards. You can search other posts but highlights include their crispy pad see ew, one bite salad, tangy beef, panang curry. I think it blows Penny's out of the water.

Yes, yes, Yoshi's is at Halsted (not Broadway) and Aldine. That is my mistake. I often confuse what is on each of those streets. Don't know why. I don't really do that with any other streets in Chicago.

Only on Saturday mornings when the farmers market is in the school lot. Small but nice selection of vegetables and a wonderful bakery (I believe from St. Charles) with great breads, to die for scones and muffins and burger size pretzel rolls and baguettes.

Perhaps a minor point, but Yoshi's is definitely not "pan-Asian".

Another place is HB which is on Halstead a few doors north of Roscoe. It's a little bit of a walk from the train but I went a while back and had a great dinner. And I recall it's BYOB ($10 corckage fee)... Again- haven't been there in a while, but when I was, it was quite lovely and a nice change from a lot of the other places in the area that seem to blend together in my mind...

There's a sign in the Nazarlik spot advertising the coming of an all night Thai Place. What comes around goes around I guess.

Shameless bump to ask for any new recommendations since the OP...I'll be entertaining a group next week that has requested to stay in the general area of the Belmont El. As I'm very rarely in the immediate vicinity for anything other than a bus transfer, I'm hoping for some good insights.

Most of the group is from the western suburbs and not familiar with the area, and a couple are out-of-towners who haven't visited in 15 years, so I'd say they're looking for a unique Chicago experience, something outside the usual Italian beef/pizza/dogs that one normally wouldn't find elsewhere.
