Going to be around Lake Cook/294 on Friday lunch time. What's good/different somewhere in the area preferably not much east though, to try? Will be heading back to Algonquin after, so don't mind a bit of a drive. Thought PGC or Beinlich but don't want to go that far east.

I know it's a chain, but I really like Kona Grill
The Sushi is great, plus they have excellent cooked food, and desserts that are resonably portioned.
They are on Milwaukee Avenue by Aptakisic (just n of Deerfield Road)

Just a little farther north is an outpost of Walker Brothers pancake house for the worlds best Apple pancake,
or for some of the best bacon ever-
They also have some excellent riffs on the benedict.

I like Kona Grill too. There's also Bob Chin's Crab House on Milwaukee, south of Dundee. If you take Lake-Cook to downtown Buffalo Grove, there's Malnati's, and India House.

If you go as far south as Bob Chinn's there are a wealth of places.

    From the sublime:
    Tuscany Italian
    Golden Chef Chinese
Hackneys Burgers (do NOT miss the onion loaf)
    to the Ridiculous
Super Dawg! (ridiculously good dogs that is!

ALL of these places are absolutely great eats! (within a few hundred yards of each other...)

If you head a little bit west to Lake Cook and Milwaukee, you'll have Claim Jumpers and Tramanto's in the Westin Hotel complex, and Pete Miller's and Buca di Beppo across the street from them.

India House - Buffalo Grove. Decent Buffet. Usually one or two really good things on the small buffet.

Pita Inn - Wheeling - Lunch special, tamarind drink, good eats, and dirt cheap.

Dundee Rd. west to Jimenez (a little gritty, but decent eats) Bottom of this page has their specials for the week:
http://www.carniceriasjimenez.com/specials_2.php. I'd be on the chuletas plate for 5.50. I'll probably get that once or twice before the new specials come out next Wed.

Benihana on Milwaukee just N of Dundee.

These are all well within striking distance of 294 and Lake Cook. I work right there, and these are all in my rotation for "something different" - altho Pita Inn has become a regular lunch go to.

Notes - if you've never been to Pita Inn, it gets PACKED at peak lunch hour times (for good reason.)
    - Benihana has decent sushi lunch pricings. Their sushi is ok.

    Oh SNAP!
China North! Forgot about that one. Chinese lunch buffet on Sanders just S of Dundee. Small buffet - probably 6 hot dishes, plus a few fried things, and fruit. If you like chile oil, and you wanna eat like a little piggy, you are right there.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Thanks folks, keep em coming... so far Kona Grill, Tramonto or to the other extreme, the carnecia sound pretty good... Tho I personally feel Super Dawg is highly over rated (tho I tried a whoopskie dog not that long ago and liked it), my husband might want to do that.

J Alexander's is at Lake Cook and 294 on the south side of the street, they have decent burgers and not terribly crowded at lunch times. Pricey but decent atmosphere and service.

On Milwaukee just north of Lake Cook is Mi Mexico. It's not the best ever but it seems to be family run/owned, not chain-y and reasonably good value, they're generous with their chips and I've never had to wait there.
