Where can I get the best caramel apples in Chicago? And I don't mean Affy Tapple, although those are pretty good.

I was googling and found Andrew's Carmel Apples - though I'm not sure why caramel is spelled wrong. Has anyone ever been there? It looks like they have caramel apples for under $1.

I'm sure some of the sweet shops sell them in fall. If anyone has favorites, I'd love to hear!

Not in Chicago, but Aunt Diana's in Riverside have the best I've ever had. I'm pretty sure they only make them in the Fall.

At the Affy Tapple outlet , you can also purcahse Mrs. Prindables, their deluxe signature line at a substantial discount. It's just south of Howard on Croname, and you can get some amazing Apples as well as some fabulous deals.
They have most of the varieties on the website, although availability will vary by size
    http://www.affytapple.com/factorystore/

An apple that sells for $27 on the website will go for $5-$8 here and they are usually great-
The smaller ones are rarely over $2 (even the fancy ones)
They also sell caramels, apple chips, coated pretzels (sometimes at 10 cents ea)
It's a great place for bargains expecially when you're doing a party.

I second Cathy2's suggestion. Dan's caramel apples are delicious! They normally start making them the beginning of August and continue through Halloween. Do be sure to pick up a package of G-shaft if you make the trip!

Edited to add that Dan's has a second location on the West side:
    1003 Plainfield Rd.
    Joliet, Il. 60435

According to Dan's website the Cass Street location is closed for the summer and will reopen on 8/20/10.

Stanley's at North and Elston has caramel apples in the fall/winter. With nuts and without. I think they make them in-house.

I know the price sounds outrageous, but the apples are truly Ginormous!
then the enormous apple is coated with like 5 layers of caramel and different types of chocolate and candies, and beautifully wrapped, etc.

To eat it, you really have to cut it into slices, although you don't have to share unless you want to

I've found really large apples tend to be mealy. It probably wouldn't make for the most satisfying caramel apple, either. I'll repeat my Fudge Pot recommendation again.

A few years back, I had a similar apple from Sam's Club that was $8.95. Of course, I waited until iy was marked down to $2.50. It was quite excellent - both the apple and the toppings.

For my taste, I would rather core and slice the apple and drizzle caramel and chocolate and nuts over it as that makes it a lot easier to eat.

Has anyone tried the apples at Tag's Bakery in Evanston? They look pretty tasty, although there's not enough nuts in my opinion.

The other day they were making gorgeous gigantic caramel apples to order at the Mariano's in Libertyville.
