Having recuperated from the awesomeness of the June dessert exchange, it's time to plan the next one. The details:

    Host: Alleycat

    Date: Monday, August 2 - 6:30 p.m.

Location: Gold Coast area near the Newberry Library (one block from Clark, State and Division buses; 1 1/2 blocks from Red line Chicago & State stop; plenty of metered street parking)

I have two cats, so allergen alert.

    Basic exchange rules:
    1) I'll provide a light vegetarian dinner and drinks. (Please let me know if you have any food allergies or other dietary restrictions.)
    2) Bring one dessert, no need to double or triple the recipe, there's always plenty! Seriously, there's a lot of food - seeing all those desserts filling Laura's huge dining table last time nearly made me weep with joy.
    3) Bring containers for taking your portions of each dessert home. We nibble on the desserts at the exchange and then all take samples home. You'll probably need at least a few good sized containers.
    4) Come hungry!

Everyone is welcome! Event is capped at 11 people (incl. me) due to space limitations.

    Attendees:
    1/2. alleycat + 1
    3. Pie Lady
    4. justjoan
    5. msoma97
    6/7. pairs4life + 1
    8. Eli
    9. LauraS.
    10. Figmolly
    11.

I'll be there with some kind of cookie, hopefully cardamom honey cutouts if I can figure them out, topped with royal icing and a neato design.

You could always post them to your blog & provide a link. Or if you have a photobucket, picasa,or flickr account then you can put them there & provide a link as well otherwise the BBCode has worked for me in the past here.

Looking forward to meeting you, figmolly.

I forgot to ask, does anyone have any dietary restrictions? I'm making a light vegetarian dinner but don't know what yet so shoot me a p.m. if I need to avoid nuts, dairy, eggs, whatever.

Whoa, looks like I might just squeak in. Haven't been on the forum in a while. I'd love to attend. I can only make a couple of these a year because the date usually conflicts. I will make something with fruit. I'll figure it out and post back.

no, ingrid. i don't believe so. i think you're looking at the first picture? it was a delicious loaf made by pairs4life, but i've forgotten what she called it! i've never tried bienenstich- i hope you're thinking of making it? it sounds delicious (cake split in half, filled with pastry cream, topped with crunchy honey/almonds) justjoan

No it was the pinenut and almond pound cake. It was indeed delicious.

Now of course I want Bienenstich and have started looking for recipes.

I was going to make peach kuchen, but I can try to make bienenstich. I'll check my German cookbooks.

Anyone else know what they are bringing or thinking about?

I'm leaning towards a homemade soda for 1 of the offerings. The other, perhaps a shortcake depending on what the fruit looks like at the Market this weekend.

No idea what I'm making yet. Probably stop by the market on Sunday and decide last minute. I wouldn't be upset if everyone made a fruit dessert, would anyone else?

have you thought about how we'd get the soda home in individual portions? i might be doing something with fruit, too, but i think lots of seasonal fruit desserts would be great. justjoan

If successful, it will be tasted/offered/consumed on site. It will be like french fries, they never work later
