We're staying in the Jackson Lake Lodge within the national park. It's raining and I finally have access to wireless in the lodge.

Anyone have experience with the restaurants in Jackson, WY, not in the park?

    Upscale or otherwise....
    Thanks.

Haven't been there in a number of years but our best meal was at Snake River Grill. It was so good we ate there twice. Of course restaurants change but I checked out their menu and it still looks wonderful, although expensive.

We also had an excellent meal at the Granary at Spring Creek Ranch.

You should check out Amangani, if for nothing other than a drink. Gorgeous setting and 1 of the top hotels in the country. I would imagine their restaurant is very good but will probably be more expensive than Snake River. The meal was okay when we ate there but the hotel had just opened so it wouldn't be fair to judge. Certainly worth a look.

Tried to get the link for Amangani, an Amanresort but couldn't log in. Maybe their server is down.

Yeah, I used to visit regularly, though I think it's been two or three years since my last visit.

Places I've liked: Cadillac Grill, Snake River Grill, Merry Piglets, Gun Barrell, The Granary.

Places to avoid: Mangy Moose, and this terrible little breakfast place on, I think, Broadway a block or two off the square.

My favorite meal was probably at The Granary. Not only is it top quality food, but a spectacular view. Unbeatable view.

Looking at the menu of Cadillac Grill online it looks less interesting than the one I ordered off of.

Gun Barrell was probably the most surprising place. You have to be okay seeing a bunch of stuffed dead animals on the walls. My wife wasn't too thrilled. But they have a lot of game in an interesting lodge decor and the prices aren't as bad as some.

Jackson Hole (possibly Teton Village) is on our radar for sometime this fall. We may yet end up elsewhere, but among the factors that will be considered, in any event, is food. (Gee, there's a surprise, huh?) So I thought I'd resurrect this five-year-old thread and see if anyone had any more recent experience to toss in the hopper. Thanks.

    Hi,

I was just in Jackson the other day actually. Given my predilections, I stopped in at Snake River Brewing Company.

Their beers are very well done, ranging from good to world-class. I had a sample flight and enjoyed every beer, from the Kolsch to the Simcoe-heavy IPA and everything in-between. Their food is also, I thought, pretty good. Their bread is done in-house. My wife had one of their specialty pizzas done as a calzone that was very good. I had a lunch-special BLT that was excellent: good bacon, good fresh tomatoes, romaine lettuce and avocado mayo on their house-made french bread. We had our 3yo son with us who asked for a kid's cheese pizza. It was a very nice thin-crust cheese pizza, the sauce was a bit heavy on the herbs but it was very tasty and the crust was excellent, thin but substantial enough to carry what it was holding.

The tetons and yellowstone were magnificent as expected.

    Hope this helps,

    -Jim

I was in Jackson about two weeks ago and also highly recommend the Snake River Brewing Company. It was the only meal we ate out that was not catered. Everything we ordered was above average but the real standout was the pizza ordered by my son. Bacon, apple, Gorgonzola, spices and a little balsamic. Really outstanding.

If you like dark heavy beer, their Zonkers Stout is one of the best I've had. I also recommend the IPA (Idaho Pale Ale) from Grand Teton Brewing in Victor, ID. It's only about 25 minutes from Jackson. We didn't get to eat there because they don't open until 3.

I was in jackson hole earlier this month for july 4th
absolutely loved rendezvous bistro (elk tartare was great and the pork chop was the best i ever had), snake river grill was disappointing to me (service was not good and the pork shank was way too sweet), the so called famous dessert (some sort of pie) tasted worse than frozen dessert from grocery store so i would avoid that place
snake river brewing company is good, we loved the beer (go for the flight, you get to try everything that way), we had wings (good), burger (good) and buffalo pizza (too salty)

Here are some suggestions (we were in Yellowstone/Tetons/Jackson) a few weeks ago:

    1. Lake Yellowstone Hotel dining room - Given that there are few good dining options in the park, this remains a good bet for solid food. I'm not saying it's phenomenal, and if you're used to inventive dining like many LTHers in the Chicago area are, you might be put off by what I would describe as fairly "safe" and even boring sides/presentations (e.g., mashed potatoes). That said, food quality is good and views are great.

    2. Jackson Lake Lodge dining room - better than the above.

    3. Jenny Lake Lodge -- Have not eaten here for dinner but had a lovely, reasonably-priced lunch here. I was surprised that for $10 or $11, you can get a delicious, fresh chicken salad sandwich or buffalo burger. Nice rustic setting.

    4. Snake River Grill - We really liked this place. Had a great tuna tartare with fois gras, which was a featured appetizer when we were there. My husband also loved his pork shank in a mole, which I believe is their signature dish.

    5. Snake River Brewery - agree with above posters. Good value.

    6. Raven Grill - in Gardiner Montana. Best meal of the trip -- go there! If you're in the Mammoth Hot Springs area, Gardiner is 5 miles north . The Raven is kind of like "cowboy steakhouse" food -- but this is not a gimmicky joint like that may suggest-- This chef knows what he's doing. Had a succulent buffalo rib-eye and my husband had beef tips in a chimichurri presentation. Daughter had an awesome bufflao hot dog. Everything homemade, right down to the lemonade. Sides are phenomenal -- roasted corn, baked beans, great Texas toast. Attahced to Two-bit Saloon on Highway 89.

    Enjoy!

Adding a data point to say that if you're tempted to try Bubba's Bar-B-Que in Jackson, resist. To be fair, we had it catered, but we were catering half a block from the restaurant so it seems unlikely that it was wildly different. Decent sauce. Respectable sides. Tasteless meat.

On our honeymoon in the area, five years ago, we ate at the Granary. It really was lovely.
I still remember the duxelles I had as a side and the impeccable service.
