Well I have a trusty calendar for a reason, but it only works when you write stuff in it.
Since last time I tried the honey cardamom cookies they were a dismal failure, and I'm running low on time, I might make vanilla cupcakes with pear buttercream, maybe lemon madeleines if I can figure them out, maybe something else entirely. Ain't surprises grand? 8)

    I'm making peach hand pies.

And I agree that this time of year you can't have too many fruit desserts.

I regret to say that I will not be attending after all. I'm doing a contract job and have a deadline and I'm thinking that I'm not going to fit everything in this week. So, you have one more opening if someone else wants to take my place. Sad, I love fruit desserts.

On a brighter note, I did find a Bienenstich recipe in one of my German cookbooks. I'll make it to the next dessert exchange that I'm able to attend.

Eli, are the peach hand pies from Smitten Kitchen? I almost decided to make those. I'm testing out peach cobbler filled cupcakes, hopefully, if everything works out. See everyone tomorrow!

Yes, they're the Smitten Kitchen ones (mostly). That would have been pretty hilarious if we both brought the same thing. Peach cobbler cupcakes sound awesome.

My place is available too- seating is limited, but have throw pillows. Has anyone sent alleycat a pm to remind her to send out directions? All the desserts sound so good, don't want to miss out on this one!

i sent alleycat a PM this morning. i dont have a phone number or last name for her, alas, so i can't call her. i hope she's just forgetful, rather than something being wrong. will everyone be able to access their email tomorrow, so we can give her a chance to email us then??? having just made 13 tart shells, which i'll fill tomorrow, i'm not prepared to let this event slip away. either melissa or i will have the event if alleycat hasn't responded by tomorrow morning, ok??? joan

I have email access all day. And I made both cupcakes and madeleines...hooo boy, did these cupcakes turn out crazy! Let us know who's the hostess and I'll be there with some wacky cakes for all.

    No, it's a butter/cream cheese dough.

It's a little after 9 a.m. and no word, so I'll send directions to my place if a follow-up email. I'll make a few quick dips and have some cheese available.

what do the rest of you think? should we give alleycat a few more hours? melissa needs time to get ready if we are moving the dessert exchange. i'll bring some pasta with pesto which we can eat at room temp. to add to the dips she offered to make. those of you who are taking the train, are you all able to get out to oak park? i would be happy to offer a ride to anyone who is in chicago and needs to get out there. (eli? molly? shall i pick you up?) a decision to give up on alleycat even if she pops up soon should be made by more than melissa and me..... joan

Okay. Just seeing this. I say give alleycat a bit more time.

I also pm'd her, so it seems weird, if my original hypothesis was correct that she doesn't check email on the weekends, that she hasn't responded to any of this.

I don't think she's flaked out because just last week she was responding to folks on thread.

At this point I just hope alleycat is ok.

PS- I made ice cream so the shorter travel to alleycat's would be preferred for my dish ;D.

I think at this point it's safe to say that something unforeseen has come up for alleycat. (I also PMed alleycat yesterday afternoon.) I hope everything is OK with her. It's late enough in the day that we should go ahead and officially move it to Melissa's. She's been gracious enough to offer to host pretty last minute. We should give her at least this much time to prepare.

Joan, thanks for the offer of a ride. I'll be coming from work downtown, so getting out there on public transit should be fine, but I'd appreciate a ride back into the city, if that works.

eli, i'll be happy to give you a ride. ava: i think we should committ to melissa but maybe melissa should have the last word. if she'd be relieved not to have us over if and when alleycat responds and says everything's ok, she just forgot to send the addresses....i think that's her call, but i'm going ahead right now and making a pot of pasta with homemade pesto. if i dont need it tonight, i'll have food for later in the week, so it's no big deal. how about a 12pm definite cut off for alleycat. after that, if she responds she can join us at melissa's, or not. if i was melissa i'd want some certainty. joan

I am heading out for a yoga class and won't return until around 2ish. Should Alley Cat respond during that time, I can always bring the goods to her place or have plenty to eat during the week. If anyone hears from her, would you mind calling my cell to let me know? I'm going to the store right after class. So if there is no cell message by 1:30ish, I'll just go ahead with picking some things up.
