    Hey folks,

We use to do a Pig Roast Labor Day weekend to Bookend our Summer events. (Crawfish Boil Memorial Day weekend) We took 2 years off do to travel and children entering the mix. We are VERY excited to put on this event one week before Labor day. Lagunita's Brewing will be on hand showing off some of their fine beer's. We will have a couple on Tap as well as a few bottles. The event will begin around 4pm. We will be roasting a whole pig either in a La Caja China, the box used at Jimswside's great event earlier this summer or Philw's new rig. We will also be doing several shoulder's with different injections, rib tip's, hot links and Da Beef has said he has some special sausage from Texas that will hit the grill. This is not all folks. Several sides, homemade pickles a few slaw's, salads and beans, plenty of squishy white bread and sauce and rubs. Feel free to bring your favorite sauce etc. as well.
We will have a live Blues Band starting at 6 til? Hopefully all the food will be out around 5 with some samples prior.
The cost is $20 a head all you can eat with the first drink included. We will have a limited menu available as well and if people want to opt out of the Swinedining package it is $5 for the band. This will be a great event hope to some LTHers new and old!

We wish you could make it Jean! We have got the band booked a long time Chicago favorite, The Carl Davis Band. His Chicago style of blues will definitely get the house rocking. The menu is evolving as well, Mac and cheese, Texas style pinto beans, A few different slaws, probably some sweetcorn, squishy whitebread, several sauces etc. So Come on out and enjoy an afternoon and evening with us!! Oh and of course the pig, rib tips, hot links, 14 hour smoked shoulder butts etc......

It usually starts a bit earlier (i think the last few times i've arrived around 1:00ish) but wanted to check. Definitely try to make it--Danny's feasts are a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. This one looks particularly delicious!!

Would really like to do this, both for my love of pork and my profound affinity for Lagunitas. One question though -- What's the consensus on bringing a child (18 month old)? While she's a well behaved little monkey, she'd probably only be down for it for about an hour before we had to take off, so it'd be best suited to the 4:30-6 window. However, I'm not sure whether these events typically have children attending.?

    Thanks.

    Ralph,

I have a 3 year old who will be in attendance for a while. We have always been kid friendly but since my girls arrival there has been a huge influx of little ones in. I am sure some of he neighborhood kids will be around as well. Early would be good. Hope you make it.

One of my friends, who participates on this board from time to time, is also seriously considering attending with her almost 1 year old. I think it's loud enough to handle a vocal youngster without being so rowdy that it wouldn't be comfortable for you to have him/her there. And PG and I have been known to help babysit--right Jim?

yep. Toons is defintely kid friendly(especially the events), my 3.5 y.o. has been many times, and asks occasionally when we are heading back.

Great news. If you see a gent in his mid-30s holding an 18 month old girl in one arm and a Lagunitas in the other, and a hour later you see that gent's more responsible wife now holding the girl, due to said Lagunitas, come say hello.

One thing I will note is that the music - in the front room especially - is sometimes very loud. It's good music though, so any damage to the child's eardrum is balanced by the development of good taste.

Sorry Kenny, if I wasn't so damn busy powerwashing the back deck and rassling that damn pig downstairs I could have handled that for you! She was feeling a bit clubby or something. Hope you can make it. To all the folks attending things are looking good here. The pig is marinating and been injected so far. Prep work on sides has begun. Picked up a #30 Box of Uncle John's Hot links yesterday. PhilW is dropping off his Klose pit for us to use and the La Caja China has been cleaned and ready to go! See ya all Saturday!

Danny has been talking to his doctor about getting some facial work done prior to his upcoming trip to Italy. Doctor recommended a full transplant:

I hear that we'll be able to see the post-surgery results at tomorrow's event.

I was fortunate enough to be at Toons when piggy arrived yesterday: a pretty but monstrous beast that was too big for the La Caja, hence the hacked-off head.

Looking forward to a sublime blend of Uncle John's handiwork--plus all the other in-house pork transubstantiations--with the husky syrup of Chicago blues to flavor the air and lotsa Lagunitas to lend a festive modicum of lubrication....

A tip of my White Sox hat to Danny and crew for Porkapalooza yesterday. Everything I tasted was great, especially the pig, the rib tips, and the pickles Kevin makes. All top notch.

The band was great and it was great to see so many LTHr's out yesterday.

Ill post my pics of the pig on the main Toons thread, but here is one teaser.
