Hello Friends--
I am looking for suggestions for a restaurant/private room for 20 in the city. This is for a surprise birthday party and we are looking for nice (my friend has "finer" tastes)--but, the budget including tax and gratuity and beer/wine is @ $100/person.

You might contact Naha - they have a private room and while I don't have the menu here, the pricing was rather good for such amazing quality. I think it was around $65 for many entrees (with salad/soup and app) ...

nancy, they dont have a private room, but i had a wonderful birthday dinner for myself a few years ago for about 15 people at cafe matou. the room is beautiful and they just put tables together. i love the food there, and i think you could plan a meal for $100, if you're careful with the wine costs. there is easy street parking right outside the restaurant, which is in wicker park. justjoan

Mercat a la Planxa in the Blackston Hotel has a private room. I believe that it seats btw 15 and 20 people. Your friends would be within budget, including wine with this.

Naha might be over $100 per person with drink and tip. Not sure what "finer" tastes means, and I don't know the state of it since Chef Mendez left, but Carnivale has the space to accommodate 20 and is festive in a colorful way.

Ask Naha for the "pharmaceutical industry menu" and you get 3 courses for under $100 per person all inclusive.
