Subject: Chefs Needed For School Nutrition Promotion

    I need your urgent assistance!
I am currently looking for chefs and/or culinary students from the Chicago area that would be interested in participating in a promotional event at Evanston Township High school (ETHS). The Nutrition Services department and the Physical Education department are co-hosting a USDA Move & Crunch Challenge at ETHS the week of September 13-17th.

The Move & Crunch promo will be a school-wide initiative (student enrollment of 3,000 and staff of 450+) to help encourage healthy eating and physical activity. Each day of the week long Move & Crunch promotion, the 4 student cafeterias + 1 staff cafeteria will feature a fruit/vegetable of the day which students will learn about and be encouraged to pick-up as part of their lunch.

We are looking for chefs to be somewhat of an “Iron Chef” each day of the promo and prepare one recipe that uses the fruit/vegetable of the day and sample it with students in each cafeteria. You can choose to make your entire recipe in front of the students or prepare certain parts in the kitchen and save those that are feasible (given the space/time) for assembly in front of the students. Each lunch period is 43 minutes in length and we have a full central kitchen to prepare the recipe if it cannot be made directly in front of the students in the lunch room.

For your cooking demonstration, if you so choose, all of the ingredients needed for your recipe will be purchased by ETHS.

The purpose of this promotion is to educate and inform students on the various uses of the specific fruit/vegetable of the day, and hopefully pass along some healthy, easy-to-make recipes as well. To help encourage the students, the principal, superintendent, and other administrators will be acting as positive role-models for the kids and will eat lunch with the students in their cafeterias, and will participate in the PE classes with the students as well.

We are still in need of at least 10 chefs for this event. Please contact me as soon as possible if you/your company is interested in participating is this exciting promotion.
    Thanks you for your support!

Seems like a terrific idea! I'm not a chef but would be happy to help out in any other volunteer capacity needed. Just let me know.
