Maybe you've seen this trailer making the rounds. It sounds like a fascinating film, and I wondered whether it was screening anywhere in Chicago.

Sure enough, it's here for the first week of October. However, the Siskel website doesn't yet have it listed.

It's on my calendar... would folks like to make an evening of it? I don't know the area... is there someplace we could repair to for drinks/nibbles before or afterwards?

I'd be interested too. The only places I know of for nibbles are Miller's Pub, Exchequer, Eleventh City Diner and Elephant & Castle (which I've never been to). I'm sure there are plenty more but the first three are our standbys.

We're pretty flexible as to the date. I'm thinking a weeknight would have fewer attendees, and be less likely to be sold out, but I don't know if that's a problem at the Siskel Center. Do either of you have a preference?

Well, it's 84 minutes and The Film Center rarely shows movies after 8 on weekdays, so I think any time from 6:30pm on would work for most folks.

    The schedule is posted:
    Friday, October 1st at 5:00pm and 7:30pm
    Saturday, October 2nd at 3:15pm and 7:45pm
    Sunday, October 3rd at 3:00pm and 4:45pm
Monday thru Thursday, October 4th–7th at 6:15pm and 8:00pm

Directors Chris Hegedus and DA Pennebaker, producer Flora Lazar, and chef Jacquy Pfeiffer will be present for audience discussion at the 5:00pm show on Friday. Lazar and Pfeiffer will be present at the 8:00pm show on Thursday.

So far I can make Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 8 for sure and either time on the weekends. As for chow, I'm up for anything, especially since I read the "Never Been To..." thread and was shamed.

So does 8pm Thursday, Oct. 7, work for everyone?

We could probably meet up with folks around 6pm for drinks/dinner, preferably in walking distance. How about Catch 35? (There are a few deals listed on Open Table: http://www.opentable.com/catch-35) If that's too pricey, or everybody hates seafood, please make another suggestion!

    Is 6pm too early?

6pm dinner at Miller's Pub, then. Do you think we need to make reservations, or can we just show up as a group? How many of us are there going to be? Just me, Bill, PieLady and JustJoan? (Marmish... so sorry you can't make it!)

Not sure about the funny hat... I'm a big gal who tends to wear tie-dye dresses. I'll try to remember to wear one that night, OK? Here's a shot of me and Bill (my sweetie) at the picnic:

If it's just the four of us (or even up to six) I don't think we'd need reservations. What do you think, Joan?
It turns out I'll be about 15 minutes late. To avoid delays, would anyone mind ordering for me and I'll be there at 6:15?

Sure, we can order for you. Do you know what you'd like us to order? Do you have text messaging on your cell phone... that way we can ask if you want the special, whatever it is that day.

Or we could just have a drink and wait for you, which I don't think would be a problem.

I'm sure I have text messaging but I don't know how to use it! Thanks for ordering for me...below are three options in case they're out of something.

Roast Prime Rib of Beef Open-Faced Sandwich (without bread, please)
    Filet Mignon on Garlic Toast
Leg of Lamb on French Bread

and i'll just have water with it.

If you'd rather have a drink first, that's okay with me too. Can't wait!

Thank you for your kind concern, Joan. I'm not at all worried about my cell number being in the public eye, though... I've always been pretty free with it, and never had anything worse than a wrong number. We got a lot more phone-related harassment from having a landline then with a cell.

See you soon! And congrats on mastering your phone, Pie Lady!
