Not sure how I missed it, but will have to trek up there before the summer is over. Sounds like it is the grandson/grand-nephew of the founders. Very tiny stand.

Yelp has generally favorable reviews, but a handful of scathing ones as well.

    So how'd you like it?

I was at the real Mr Beef last month and asked about the LA branch. For what it's worth, Chris Zucchero, the son/co-owner, said there was no relation between the two businesses. I'm sure I don't know the whole story. Anyway, here are shots of the genuine article.

Not a bad sandwich but I'm really not a fan of their giardiniera, overwhelmed with watery celery.

Interesting...now word on the Mr Beef LA Facebook page an hour ago apologizes for being "closed until further notice". Not sure what to read into that.

If you want to eat well on the Venice boardwalk, take your ass to Jody Maroni's Sausage Kingdom, over by where they work out @ the S end of muscle beach. Tremendous selection of custom sausages made in house (not sourced like Hot Dougs). Usually has about a dz choices available. Yucatan Chix, smoked w/mole, or stuffed with pomegranate and basil are just a few options. Selections change seasonally (even though there really aren't any seasons).

When I lived there, used to love the lamb w/curry and apples or a duck w/serrano and cumin. They used to hawk slices of them to the passers by. That's how they ended up being served @ Dodger Stadium... hawked it to the right guy in the crowd, who happened to own the Dodgers @ the time.
