Read on msnbc.com that there is a new tool to find your favorite beers in Chicago bars and restaurants. I tried it out and it seems to work pretty good, even for some unusual brews I plugged into the search.

Yes, thanks for the link! What makes this site so great is that, for any bar's menu page, you can check the 'updated on' date to see how accurate the list is going to be, plus see the price and ABV of the brew and click any beer name to link to a description of the brew. So helpful in deciding which bar's beer selection (and sometimes, specials) are worth going for on a given night!

Moonshine was updated just a few months ago, but it didn't include any of their beers brewed on premise. Hamburger Mary's, which also brews, wasn't listed at all.

Someone explained to me that the website is updated by the bars themselves. If the manager/whoever doesn't get around to it, then... There can also be differences in opinion about when something is "available" -- ie., say Small Bar gets a keg of Half Acre's Long Thai Rainbow Rye but it doesn't go on tap right away. They may list it available when it's just sitting in the cellar. It's not a bad resource, but as always, the best way to get correct information is to call the bar/restaurant first.

The best feature of Beermenus.com is that you can search for your favorite beers by location and price. It's tough to find consistently updated seasonal brews. But for your year round favorites this site is key.

Like too many of the women I dated before I met my wife, this looks great on the outside but disappoints once you start to play around with it. I typed in 2 beers I've enjoyed recently at multiple establishments around town, and the Search came up empty.
