Chicago Style Hot Dogs, nationwide

The Tribune is reporting today that Target and Vienna Beef have inked a deal that will put the sausage-maker's hot dogs in the food courts of 1,350 stores. Target will also put hot dogs on the shelves of the 1,000 stores that have refrigerated areas.

It won't be the best chicago dog out there, I'm sure, but in, say, Marquette, Michigan, it'll certainly be the only one.

Vienna Beef estimates it'll boost sales of their hot dogs by 10%. Which is amazing.

The company beat out ConAgra (Hebrew National) and Sara Lee (Best's Kosher) for the Target deal.

That's very cool. The baseline quality of hot dogs in America just made a quantum leap, and it benefits a truly local company.

This is great news for Vienna and for Chicago food pride. But in Michigan (even up in the yoo pee), there's only one dog for me and that's a Koegel's Vienna:

When I was driving through Michigan recently, I saw the signs for Koegel's Vienna. I assumed wrongly this was related to Vienna in Chicago. It seemed like the script for Vienna seemed to be reminiscent of our local sausage company.
